BSNL service quality varies heavily depending on circles.

You must one of the few lucky ones dude. In my case, BSNL has become a nightmare and the overall quality has only become worse with time. The line quality, customer service, plans etc. have only deteriorated in the last 5 years since I took the broadband. And the bribes charged by linemen for doing their otherwise duty of fixing the lines whenever gone bad is only increasing. A few years ago, the lines used to go mostly during rain, lightning, wind or other natural disturbances but nowadays lines get bad once or twice every month even during proper summer, spring, winter etc. For over two years now there have been no pan-India BSNL broadband plan upgrades. And even when the phone or DSL is working, their servers go down every few days nowadays. Not to mention that their offices are closed almost half of the month due to national, state, local and all possible holidays in sarkari style including their personal chuttis. This makes it often impossible to get the line fixed for prolonged period of time even after paying bribe if the line gets bad in the start or mid of a holiday season. And their worst service is in the circles where they have virtual monopoly due to lack of competition. They do not even move their asses in those circles unless bribed by several hundred rs.

i am on bsnl broadband since 2008 Jan ,almost 5 years, I live in small town,so i have no choice other than local wifi and cable broadbands( They offer 1300 unlimited for 4mpbs - but i dont believe in them and reliability is poor)Only twice in this period i has connection problem that too equipment upgrade in local exchange each time lasting for 12 hrs once and 24hrs onceOther than that its a rock solid connectionIf they improve some plans like UL1350 and UL 1700 plans to more data within FUP, its the best btw,i had exchange 4km from me for 3yrsFor last 2years they setup a new exchange (Pretty small one) ,luckily it is .5km from my house. As far my expierence goes,For Towns and Smaller cities BSNL is best. Employees of bsnl of these areas mostly known to our parents or our relatives,so we get good service. Work load for these people is less. Believe me I never bribed BSNL guys in my place. In cities its may not be the case ,there is more work load, they dont care a sh$t as there job security for themFor metros, many options are there. But if you have a new problem started with BSNL,its a torture unless its resolved or go out of bsnl. I had big problem with Cellone postpaid,i had to visit exchange for every small activation, deactivation. So got irritated and moved to voda

My experience with BSNL is worst. I am having problem with BSNL since 2 months, but no body have a clue about it. Regular disconnections, very slow speed on weekends. Lack of technical knowledge. Etc.... If you have any other option except BSNL in ur city then go for it.

I totally agree with u..
Same case is here with me.

In semi-metro cities, after spending 1300rs they get atleast 1Mbps unlimited w/o FUP. But in BSNL we get only 20GB which is nothing (for me atleast).
There is one and only one thing that BSNL need right now is COMPETITION.

I have a very satisfactory experience with BSNL broadband in city like chennai as well as in a small town like srirangam.

i have 750UL+ .my experiences about bsnl are mixed one. my connection is running now good but sometimes it's nightmare to deal with bsnl problems .like 1-2 days ago my download speed drops from 64KBps to just 5KBps .even google wouldn't open but my upload speed were unchanged i.e. 40KBps.i called their customer care ,exchange none of them had a clue about this .even after complaining their technician guy solve this case by just talking on phone .connection was stable in winter but in last rainy season ,my connection was unstable frequently.Government should define a connection broadband for connection above 1 Mbps .why a connection is called BB when i can't watch youtube videos even at 240p ?
