I have a BSNL broadband connection home-500. Using modem Ut300R2U.I use Xp and Vista both. I keep getting an exclamation mark in the activity window (connection status)right below saying "Local Area Connection, Speed 12.0mbps, Limited or no connectivity." My speed is a bit slow. What could be the reason. BSNL engineers who come to install the modem dont know anything,when contact they dont respond,they say dont put any DNS nos and IP address windows automatically asssigns one. Is it true?I use the modem in the USB mode not ethernet mode because the latter i was facing the same problem. The modem driver cd is also confusing with the instructions printed to assign ip address etc. In the network connection windows created a 1394 Adapter icon and a Local area connection under heading LAN or High Speed Internet and plus a seperated icon for connecting broadband saying "Wan Miniport (PPOE).What should i do to get my speed back and no exclamations.

Initial Setup of UT300R2U ADSL Modem Dont put any DNS nos and IP address windows automatically asssigns one. Is it true?
Your ethernet card seems to be OK Try with XP. Try this. Start/Network/LAN/properties/TCP/IP /Properties. select assign IP address automatically. You can enter DNS 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222 ) OpenDNS for almost all ISPs ) report access to Internet for further details about USB/Vista. Please delete duplicate thread.

Limited or no connectivity appears when there is no ip address. select assign ip address automatically. i think u r connected in the bridge mode.you configure ur modem. u remove the pvc value vpi/vci corresponding to 0/35add new with vpi/vci as 0/35save ur settings and try to connect

What is a bridge mode can you specify please? I'm confused since day one i installed my ADSL Modem. Can you just elaborate as to how should i go about changing these values.

i too got the same message about limited connectivity but still able to surf normally.in my case i found out that after restarting the modem 1 or 2 times i got normal connection.also there was some line repairing work going on in the area which my lineman told me & that may also be the reason.now i don't get this message.bridged mode is more safe & easy to use than pppoe protocol which is default in the bsnl modem.in bridged mode you don't have to enter your username & password inside modem configuration.also there is no port forwarding issues if you enable uPnP in bridged mode.this means you can start to use torrent clients like uTorrent without any port setting change.

ppoe mode is what i've been using and been using utorrent and i dont have any problem on port forwarding.Even if you have problem regarding port forward go to PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall.I recommend using ppoe mode.

@mayflower
I recommend you to manually configure your modem (followed the link provided by essbebe), Local Area connection and use ppoe mode and ethernet (not usb).Post your further problem here,
