Finally plunging into custom ROMs eh! I don't think there would be any issue. Start with stable builds. Flashing ROMs are a piece of cake on Nexus devices. Give it a try, no harm. No idea about the Google Apps part, nothing mentioned anywhere about it.
Right. Doing it. See no point remaining on official build considering the performance of 4.3 is awful and 4.4 is not coming. And even if I manage to brick this phone, it would not hurt me that much lol.
Right. Keep the stock factory image handy. And if the installer installs cwm recovery (most likely yes), take a backup of your existing ROM with data, which you can restore if something goes wrong.
