you are giving me a headache. i skipped college because i did not want to learn all this nonsense. :P

----------

i have filed a support request with APC. their service engineer would give me a visit in the next two days. need to get this thing repaired.

i could not visit the UPS guy today. i have also asked a quote from the APC guys. their sales team rep would be calling to look into my requirement.

need to see how much they quote for what i am seeking :D

after extensive testing i have realized that the thing is not charging beyond 21%this makes me believe that the secondary battery unit has gone bad. since it is much bigger and might be responsible for 80% of the backup capacity.

i think it is. from their website, the UPS has a 2 year warranty... battery might not be covered. i would get it replaced if it is messed up though. would be stupid to not replace the battery and waste a perfectly good UPS system. the UPS unit was purchased in december 2009. i bought the extended battery earlier this year. hoping to see an APC guy at my place in a day or two.

yeap. one year in most cases. APC software states that i should replace the battery at least once every three years. so they might have a longer warranty. in any case, they give refurbished replacements (as per their site) so its not like i am going to get a new battery as a replacement.

APC guy would be arriving in the morning.

He was to come today but I picked up his too late.

The UPS is doing better today actually.

It still has not reached 100% charge in the last 2-3 days!

The guy said that he would replace the unit if there is any fault.

I would need to provide a copy of the bill though.

and it finally happened. just hours before the visit from the APC service dude... :P

----------

had a chat with the APC guy who would be visiting in an hour... he said that if the battery has completely died, it could take up to 48 hours for it to replenish completely.

so, the UPS might not have suffered any damage. it just took additional time to recover. he would still visit and check the unit for any problems. and would replace it as it is still under warranty.

the new model i am planning to buy has these power ports...

anyone has any idea if power strips are available which works with these?

so i placed an order for a new heavy duty APC UPS on Friday morning. Made half the payment right then. first i was promised delivery by friday evening. then it became saturday evening. then it became monday evening. i got a call in the morning that they are sending me my delivery. yet to arrive here. and their warehouse is hardly 4-5KM from my place. :D
