also, can someone tell me the use of the reset button in my modem? (it is a small button inside the cover of th e modem which needs to be pressed by a pin) my modem type is UT300R2U

HI
Modem reset will help in getting the default settings back in the modem (try this it might help). Second if BSNL Dns has a problem then use this
primary DNS 208.67.222.222 and Secondary DNS 208.67.220.220. Also ping 192.168.1.1

isnt this primary dns and secondary dns dependent on the place where you stay?i am asking this becoz i saw in some previous post that the dns for mumbai was "208......'?

@avichal :
1 The dns given by armaan_99 is called OpenDns and will work for most ISP's.
2.Try start/network/Lan Properties/TCP/IP properties
Assign Ip automatically. Also DNS.
If needed enter dns given.
3. The reset button sets the modem to factory settings.
Make a backup of existing entries , before resetting the modem.
4. Check Diagnostics page in the modem to pinpoint the fault.
5. Ccleaner from filehippo.com - Download Free Software
clear all old temporary files. Look at other downloads same site.
( Can be ignored. just addl info ).
