Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat reached its end of life on the 10th April 2012. This means that the OS will stop getting all critical software/hardware updates from Canonical. Users are advised to upgrade to a newer release.
Released in October of 2010, Ubuntu 10.10 was a notable release. It was the first release to ship with Unity (in the then-existing Netbook edition), introduced Shotwell as Ubuntu’s default photo manager, and brought a refined installer with new check screens and 3rd party software options to the user.
Update Manager shows this:
The latest version of Ubuntu, Precise Pangolin 12.04 LTS is in its final beta and the final release is scheduled to be out on April 26, 2012. This will be a Long Term Support version with support for 5 years.
