this should auto update with fresh content now. it's a bit buggy right now... new content is sometimes repeated. i have filed a bug report which has been accepted by the developer of the add-on.

it is supposed to load fresh content every 5-10 seconds. you have to do nothing at your end. not sure what your screenshot is showing though.

Oh! Not sure if that's working. Not even sure if that's useful when people can just refresh the forums with a click?

i had it on xf 1.x and i missed that on 2.x for years now. the addon just because available and i bought it. it is pretty useful if you spend a lot of time on the forum as you just let that page run in one tab and whenever you load that tab, you have the latest updated content visible.

i have been using an addon to refresh that page every couple of minutes since upgrading to 2.x. this is just more efficient. and also works on mobile browsers (sometimes).

Makes sense. For me the bell icon works best.

yeah this addon is mostly useful for mods and admins to keep an eye on all content being posted on the forum.

One thing I have noticed is that likes/reactions don't show up on the what's new page now. Not sure if that's intended.

yeah that's an option i had enabled. i suppose i can disable it considering there is little activity otherwise lol.
