yeap. the launch timing of bada was a surprise. they had already jumped on the android bandwagon.

but i guess it makes sense. samsung does not want to remain dependent on a third party company for ever.

developing bada side by side gives them an alternative option if they are ever forced to get out of android market.

i mean, a lot of phone companies have now become hugely dependent on third party software developers and that is threatening in nature.

Apple already controls their entire ecosystem. microsoft has tight control on who can and cannot develop windows phone devices.

HP controls webOS. RIM controls Blackberry OS.

this is probably the same reason Nokia is still sticking with Symbian and MeeGo.

companies like LG and Sony are totally dependent upon third party platforms for smartphones.

samsung has bigger ambitions i believe.

and yes. the cost cutting measures taken by HTC and Samsung is the reason why I am planning to get my Nexus S from the USA. and early unit too. of course, there are tons of risks involved. I might get a dud unit (from first batch of production :( ) and i get pretty much no warranty from Samsung India. :(

it costs around 24000 rupees excluding taxes. i think taxes would be around 3-4K taking the overall cost to Rs. 27000.

Could you please tell me advantages of Nexus S over Galaxy S? and which is better?

heh. well. here is what i can say about these two phones.

samsung galaxy s is on sale in india officially. so you can buy it locally and you get warranty from the company. it comes with android 2.1 i believe. 2.2 is not yet released in india i believe. but it is definitely coming. samsung has not revealed when 2.3 would be released for this phone.

google nexus s is not on sale in india. it is unlikely to go on sale in india in the near future (if ever, though google might bring it to india). it comes loaded with android 2.3. but you have to get it from USA or Europe. so you get no warranty from samsung.

the advantages of nexus s is that it is a google branded phone. google is responsible for software updates. so whenever android 3.0 is released, you can be sure that this phone would get it on priority.

Galaxy S has already got the Android 2.2 update. Just need to update it as it comes with Android 2.1No wasting of time for Nexus S as it wont be released soon.Galaxy S may get late updates for OS but still it will have the warranty :)

A guy is selling Nexus S on ebay india for 31K. Check out this link eBay India: Samsung Google Nexus S (Latest Version) (item 270678515764 end time 25-Dec-2010 08:00:00 IST)

I feel Android 2.3 has minor improvement / additions over 2.2. But there is a world of difference between 2.2 and 2.1
Google Nexus S has almost similar hardware compared to Galaxy S. Main difference is Android 2.3 and samsung would be providing it may be in some months.
Right now IMO buying Samsung Galaxy S makes sense. Also note that Nexus S has Bluetooth 2.1 compared to 3.0 of Galaxy.

heh. the phone is still not on sale in the Indian market.

i suppose he is getting a unit through a source in the USA with the sole idea of selling it.

i can technically order multiple units and sell the second unit on ebay. but no thanks.
