ok, i found out the reasons for my slow torrent speeds. Doesnt seem to be mtnl fault but instead that the D-Link routers are crap. Read the list of bad routers in azureus wiki, D-Link 5xx models are listed there are having problems with too many connections.
Like a greedy pig, i had increased the number of max connections & connections per torrent to too high.
I have knocked back Global Max. no. of connections to 120 & i restrict my upspeed in utorrent to 15kBps. Now I get good speeds, 100-120+ even on old torrents.

u will definitely be better served by shifting to bridged mode and using batch scripts and rasdial & just to be safe PC scheduled to shut down at 0757. The method is 100% fool proof. I ve been using it for 2 months now.

There are so many solutions to this 590nu (849nu now) problem,it will just take one page and this topic can be closed forever. No one enjoys this all-night-free-subscription: remaining within a legal framework.Exceptions r there. So many programs r there, u can easily download, that everything can be sequenced to operate the whole procedure of::- 1-switching ur comp, 2-A few min later making an internet connection, 3-starting ur download programs,4-closing ur program,5-Disconnecting ur connection and 6-Shutting down ur comp.Is there anything more to say?(As soon as the comp shuts down ur connection is no more,if u have a BRIDGE connection)Naving

according to bridge mode ,u are supposed to make a new connection with user name and password.. which i am not able to .. it created but when i try to connect ..it outputs error 678.. please tell me a step by step procedure to make modem to work in bridge mode..will it work for utstarcom ut-300r2u

.. it created but when i try to connect ..it outputs error 678..

I have the same router and I used to get the same error mesage when I tried connecting afternoons/early evenings(Peak Hour-when we had that Prabhadevi exchange change over fiasco around the 849NU launch)
looks like the system will not authenticate temporarily till its overloaded or something

Try connecting at different times of day,I'm pretty sure it will work, coz the error states that ur modem and the MTNL server are communicating and the connection setup is proper............Its just that at that particular moment ur not getting authenticated and logged on
This error seems temporary, coz i have not seen it for almost 2/3 months now

Still want to redo the setup, then use this guide(Bridging section),The screenshots should be applicable to all routers flashed with the MTNL firmware including the UT Star300R2U
http://delhi.mtnl.net.in/services/Broadband_Services_UserGuide_V3.0.pdf

But since ur in bangalore so ur BSNL and not MTNL ,I suppose so try this
BROADBAND MAIN MENU

Or here is the screenshots & steps for the UTstar firmware(Mods,is this link allowed???????)
BSNL DATAONE BROADBAND

please tell me how to schedule an automatic router reboot for the new Trendchip modem (has 4 lan slots) supplied by MTNL..either through Telnet or thru another program. the telnet interface is not the same as the D-Link modem...please help!!!i have nights unlimited starting 12 midnight to 8amregardsnitin

the solution is working fine, but earliar i was able to schedule a shutdown of windows, but with telnet scripting tools window open the scheduled shutdown didnt work, any body facing the same prob, any solution for this.
