Update rolling out today. Should be available to everyone in a couple of hours. APK is of course already available.
This is also probably the first app from Google (ever?) to feature slide down to refresh. Something that is fairly common in Twitter apps.
Google has avoided this way to refresh until now. And I am quite surprised that they are now using it.

Patents are owned by Apple or Twitter. Not sure. Not good for smaller displays. Not good on resistive displays too I guess.

I think it was for Android apps that the pull to refresh kind of stuff first started. Not sure though.

So the reports are that it might become a new guideline for Android. Might become a native feature on Android 4.3.

Google is doing it cleverly. They are using the same action but not the same animation.
Not sure how this works on devices with smaller displays.
