I think chromecast only works with songs downloaded from Google PlayMusic store and the All Access catalogue. Both are not available in India yet.
This is only an issue with the Google App, you can use other apps to stream local music.
I have personally not tested with a Chromecast but the app does show the Cast icon when I am in my car where I stream music from the app using Bluetooth. Casting icon uses Bluetooth. Do not have access to Chromecast these days so cannot say about it.
You can Cast music files from your Chrome browser to your speaker, by casting the tab’s audio.
You can use one of many Google Cast-enabled apps that allow you to cast your local music files from your Android phone/tablet, iPhone, iPad or Chrome browser to your speaker. Please visit Chromecast Audio appsto find the app that fits your needs.

@chromaniac My mistake, I got it mixed up. If you try to cast local files via the GoogleMusic app, you get the error "unable to play the song. can't play a sideloaded song remotely." Purchased songs and uploaded songs stream just fine.
mmm. i was not talking about local files. i was talking about music you have uploaded to your account. so they are available online and should be available for streaming. i have a percentage of those songs cached on my phone which i listen to while driving to save data. so casting would not use these locally stored songs which i guess is on expected lines. google's own apps are mostly about casting from the web. except for screensharing.
Yup, they seem to work fine now. I couldn't get it to work properly the first time I tried when I got the device, although I can't exactly remember what the issue was then.
Wynk and Google Playmusic streaming is very sketchy on my chromecast and I used to solely rely on Youtube. The latest firmware update enabled support for Spotify and I've been using that to stream music ever since, no lags or any other issues.
