Hathway Billing scam

Hathway started new scam in the name of device maintenance charge. When they installed the connection they informed us that the device is free to use under this 749 Plan and device has to be returned during connection surrender. Now all of a sudden and out of the blues after 18 months of use they started charging for device . When checked with customer care they have no clue about it and they said it is only a yearly charge and not monthly . But now they started charging for every month. The charge would be Rs.18 including tax. One can argue that this is small amount but it is not the amount that matters here, its the way Hathway cheats the customers. They informed us that device is free to use and now they ask us to pay for the device monthly. Which is not acceptable. If they would have informed the same during installation we could have chosen other internet providers. Charging for device that too when other providers are giving device for free , I think this Hathway people went nuts. Attached the invoice for reference. If any one has faced this issue please do reply and provide your inputs.

yes, they are repeating same dialogue again and again. "Device maintenance cost which I'm supposed to pay every month". I still dont understand what changed after 18 months that they suddenly decided to impose device maintenance cost . When I asked them that, they say they dont know, since bill was generated Im supposed to pay to continue with the service. As usual ignorant customer service who replies like recorded computer message.

By provider, I did not mean the customer support call, but the local provider.
This is collective to, "they" who installed the connection and informed you.
 
Local provider (LCO) has no control , and they know nothing. They redirect us to customer care as they dont do billing related stuff, at least not in hathway.
 
I was charged Rs. 60 + GST for the six month plan. No use in fighting with CC as they can't do much about it. You could try creating a cancellation ticket and ask retention team to reverse the charge.
 
@warpspeed I raised a billing issue related ticket, they agreed to drop the device charge . I paid just the plan cost by entering the cost manually at the hathway portal. Customer care representative from billing team guided me on that. So from this hathway stunt I understand that this additional device cost can be dropped by them only if we call them ask for it and that is cheating. Imposing optional charges on customers thats really bad from hathway . If they can steal 20 Rs from each customers, you can think of how much they make on total per month from all customers.
 
I'd say don't waste your time and energy for 20 rupees, ofc it's unfair and malpractice but fighting and arguing with CC every month for it is pointless. Either pay it if hathway is giving good service or drop it and switch to another ISP.
 
@rajat_ As I already said before, its not about 20 Rs. Its about how they cheat and treat customers like fools. It is 20 Rs today, what would you do if they impose Rs.100 tomorrow and more later on. These people should be kept in check either it is 20 Rs or even it is 1 Rs. They should be reminded often that customers are not fools to take up what ever they shove it on our throats. At least not me. But I should accept that their service is best in our region, even during cyclone their service came back online in less than few hours where as jio and other providers were struggling to come back online even after 2 weeks.
