How to enable bridge mode on Airtel Xstream Fiber?

Yes i have a way and i am on bridge mode right now in airtel. Airtel has given me a Nokia G2425G-A(ONT+router), i connected my TP-Link archer AX1500 router and nokia(ONT+router) via Ethernet. I used LAN1 in nokia(ONT+router) because its full duplex and connected it to my tp links' WAN port. I turned off nokia's wifi(2.4G and 5G) because i only wanted to use my tp link router's wifi.

In the starting i was using dynamic ip for internet on my tp link router but double nat was getting detected. So i searched online and got to know that i needed to have bridge mode to solve issues like double nat. So i went to nokia's (ONT+Router) router page and in wan settings i set all port to bridge mode, it was previously set to route mode. My internet stopped working because bridge needs to be activated from airtel itself. So i called their customer care from my registered mobile no and you will notice that before it connects to the customer care it will check itself if the connection is working or not, like i said my internet stopped working so it raised a complaint itself and the best part was it didn't give it to the local technician but gave it to the technician who can actually activate your bridge mode.

Airtel sent me a message raising my complaint and gave it to this technician. I got on call with this technician, i told her that i have connected my tp link router with nokia(ONT+router) and now i am having double nat issues and my internet is not working as i set all port to bridge mode in nokia(ONT+router), so please activate bridge on Lan1. First she tried to access my nokia's(ONT+router) router page but she couldn't do anything as everything was locked because i set all port to bridge mode. So she asked me to reset the router. But here's another thing that i have noticed and airtel as well know that resetting these Airtel's provided ONT+Routers( in my case nokia G2425G-A)) can mess these routers up.

I previously had a nokia router and after resetting it, it messed up( i was getting issues in channels, the nokia(ONT+router) wasn't giving right channels to connected devices). So i told the technician that resetting the router might mess up the router and she agreed to me and said," yes i know thats why i don't ask customers to reset it myself" and I requested her to activate bridge again and she said okay dont worry, she will do something and i don't have to reset my Nokia(ONT+router).

She called me after 10-20 mins, said my bridge has been activated and wrote me down my PPPoe Username and Password and asked me to use my internet. One thing to note, when the technician says that your bridge has been activated, please restart your nokia(ONT+router) and your other router. Thank you.

@rohancyberdude could you share the extension link

@tr1k0N4 Thanks your past method work, Currently my connection is static, For using my router AX12 what should I do, The airtel person telling only the bridge mode in LAN will be enabled, But the WAN settings is route mode and still in PPPoe connection. There are asking me to configure static IP in AX12 and use it. Is this a correct way of doing it?

@archie_arch, I'm not sure I completely follow.
But assuming your LAN4 port is in bridge mode and connected to the WAN port of your AX12, you simply have to change the internet connection type in your AX12 from PPPoE to Static IP and fill in the details (IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway etc.) which Airtel folks provided you after assigning you a static IP in the backend.
The VLAN settings will remain same as done previously.

That's pretty much it.
Please check and let me know!

As long as one LAN port of your Airtel ONT is in Bridge mode, it doesn't matter what other settings are there in it.
So yeah, it can be in PPPoE mode.

Hey Guys, some other thread had a mention about mailing airtel on net@airtel.com and putting a request of bridge mode to them there.

I mailed them yesterday ( on Sunday ), and today around 4 PM they called me back on my registered number and within 2hrs, they remotely ( via TR-069 ) switched the bridge mode on.

Here's a short summary
  • A static IP isn't necessary.
    ( They did check on their system, confirmed the same with me, yet they processed the request without any hassle )

  • TR-069 gets disconnected.
    ( as Airtel's router is now disconnected from internet, and it can't connect to their TR-069 authentication server )

  • Bridge mode can be across entire device / across individual LAN ports*
    ( On some old routers, bridge mode can be configured individually for each LAN port, while on others or like those of DASAN right now, the bridge mode is for entire router. [ yes, the new firmware does suck ] )

  • PPPOE for VOIP is connected via Airtel's Router.
    ( Can't test it, as it isn't working in my city due to pending permissions from BSNL )

  • IPv6 works on downstream devices, we get a /64 prefix delegation.
    [ normally though a /56 IPv6 prefix should be delegated as per the RFCs, but Airtel gives /64 all over India. ( A /64 prefix cannot be delegated further to form subnetworks, ( android devices only supports SLAAC )) ]

  • Serious Bridging Flaw ( Airtel Side ) : On connecting another ( 3rd ) Router's WAN port to Airtel's Router (Modem-ONT-Router Combo), I was able to perform another PPPOE login.
    • Each connection individually gets different public IPv4s.
    • This might not be just limited to 2 connections. [ not confirmed ]
    • Each connection individually gets full bandwidth as that of my Internet plan.
      [ eg. if you have a 40 Mbps plan, you will get 40~50 Mbps individually on both the connections
      ( confirmed with simultaneous - download speed test performed on speedtest.net with 2 different devices connected to either routers )
      ]
