How to get a passbook for your ICICI Bank Savings Account?

I have to admit, I have no idea. This has been my experience…ICICI Bank recently mailed me that they were no longer going to send paper statement by postal mail.I have two options. I can either make do with emailed statements. Or I can apply for a passbook. About the passbook, the email clearly said:You can also ask for a pass book at your nearest branch.Today, I decided to give it a go. I went to my ‘nearest branch’ (Sector 31 Market Gurgaon) to get a passbook for my savings bank account. I was told that there were some technical problems and only this branch right now was not able to provide passbooks to customers. I was told to visit any other branch where I could get a passbook on the spot.I decided to take it one step further. I went to another branch of ICICI Bank (Civil Lines Gurgaon). There I was told that I can only get a passbook from the branch where I have my account.I decided to do exactly that. I went to the branch where my account was located (Sector 14 Gurgaon). Was told… I can leave the application and come back after a week or so to collect my passbook. I was not amused by this. I asked for more details. Was told that only the home branch has the powers to update my passbook so I would have to deal with them.Not exactly what ICICI Bank indicated in their initial mail.I did the next best thing. I applied to transfer my account from that branch to the one nearest to my home.This process would take three days. The bank representative at the local branch had told me that it would take them at least 2 weeks to start distributing passbooks again.So well… The waiting begins.

I thought that all private bank stopped giving the passbooks and then RBI instructed private banks to make it optionally

As discussed in another thread... Some private banks are dumping paper statements for Passbook to cut their own costs.

i almost thought that you got ur passbook when u said in the other thread , was thinking i should also apply for the passbook asap

I am still not sure if your account branch is compulsory for both issuance and updating of the passbook.
Decided to call ICICI Bank customer care number to get some more details. Was told that to get the passbook, I need to go to the parent branch. BUT. It can be updated by any branch which sort of makes sense.
Four different outlets gave me four different information. Pretty awesome right?

i think SBI service is pretty clear in these things , they are simple and quite sufficient for moderate use

I see no harm. I mean you can still download statement from the ICICIBank.com right? I wonder if they would stop sending you email statements if you apply for a passbook
Standard Chartered is a douche like that. You can pick from one of the two: email statements or paper statements. You cannot have both. I cannot believe how evil these companies are. Plus online access is restricted to last 90 days
I mean what next? If you get paper statements or email statements or a passbook, we would block your access to online statements?

i dont think they would give passbook in my branch , but still would ask them to see wat happens
first question would be , why i want passbook !! next will be ,e-statements are suffice
if i press more , i will be handed over a application form
well i dont have anything important to do on monday so i can watch this drama

Maybe you can ask your branch for printed statement (If they dont charge you for that). They cant deny a printed statement.

Because photocopy of passbook would work as address proof. Printouts of PDFs usually are not accepted as address proof.
