so 2 weeks ago i got airtel Xstream fiber connection installed at my home.

background story:

so in 2017 i got a call from jio fiber that they are giving free fiber connection for 3 months with refundable security deposit of 4500rs. I opted for this and got it installed. I continued using free jio fiber internet for like 2 years untill they started paid plans.
In those 2 years i got full 95 mbps up and down speed. No complaint in that. But their ping latency and download speed was like horrible for non-peered content. I raised a disconnection request this year and got the security amount of 4500rs back within 20 days.
Then airtel called me and told that they are pre booking for upcoming ftth service in my area and i will get free installation and dual band wifi for 1000rs amount. This amount will be adjusted in 2 bills . 500rs discount per bill for 2 months.
I said yes and within 1 week of request engineers and hired labour started digging my street for underground fiber cables and OLT boxes . This continued for 1 month and work was done.

i again got a call from their engineer that service is live now and they are sending wiring team to my location. And installation process began and within 1 hour connection was installed and internet was up and running.

I choose 200mbps unlimited plan and getting more than 200mbps down and upload speed approximately.

ping is also fine. Just 10ms lesser than jio but surfing websites and streaming is way better than jio.

Fiber line was there for many years. But that is mostly for tower thing. When actual ftth fiber is laid you'll seen backlane of each street getting fiber boxes fixed after every few houses.

i applied for the new connection for airtel fiber... i got call spammed from multiple people.

1. Airtel Fiber is not available... will come after 6 months.

2. You can take 40Mbps.... Fiber is not available. (depends if airtel guy of my area can actually even come and install connection for 40Mbps)

3. There is no fiber line in your area.... will take upto 1 year to come.

4. i then talked to the guy who threw some paper pamphlets to my home before lockdown.... he said fiber will come in 1 month after lock down.

4 people called, 4 different answers or information....

i friend of mine who uses airtel (as i am using his internet right now - same building)... he says he has been asking the airtel guy of our areas for 1-2 years now for fiber... but they always say wait for 3 months, wait for 6 months.... yet airtel fiber hasn't come...

he said he is airtel customer for many years now...

not sure but it's all very fishy to me.... i mean no one has any knowledge of anything? what is the right source to know when is it coming?

he said he is airtel customer for many years now...

Here lies the answers, ISPs don't expand/improve in the area they have good userbase, they want to keep milking the existing infra and they are earning good ARPU based on just Instagram/Whatsapp/Facebook/TTK/PUBG traffic then why go an extra mile for a heavy user straining their infra

They build up the capabilities where they fear losing the most userbase/market, for e.g for year i used to read mayank yadav's review info about BSNL FTTH(lucky guy got fiber in happy browsing days :p), I used to wonder that my area has good bsnl infra, they should begin it sooner or later but only after a year that JIO has installed the cable even in smallest streets that BSNL ftth arrived with the help of LCO (they shouldn't have relied on LCO when they have awesome infra here themselves, but again who knows..in 15 years i had 4 downtimes only).

You are last on their priority in such a money crunch time

And just after the BSNL laid the ftth, Airtel arrived on the scene withing a month and this area has either JIO/BSNL mostly

Jio fiber is yet to start connections but BSNL is aggressive here with opening new connections.

^only routing/latency is bsnl's weak point

i have jiofiber in our area but as i made another thread. jio is having huge ping and speed issues (not noticeable by many since they use ig or whatsapp mainly). but i know lockdown has messed up with their infra here. overcongested.

so when is airtel fiber coming any idea?

@Realme My experience with MTNL was the same. Infact the SDE (at that time) told v frankly that they give fiber in my area only to BIG customers, read those who could afford to pay big bucks & pay 1.5-2 lakhs per month, then. What's happened to them is now history.

ANYBODY ANSWER PLEASE.

Q1. like bsnl landline & broadband, does Airtel xstream fiber also charge some late fees if we delay the payment and pay the bill after due date? If yes than how much, just give some rough idea ?

Q2. For new Airtel xstream fiber connection, If we opt 3 or 6 months advance rental plan and after few months of usage if we do not satisfied with the speed or the service and want to disconnect the connection & refund, will they provide refund for remaining months?

Q3. Can we temporarily disconnect the Airtel fiber broadband connection by simply call to customer care if we have to go out of town for 2-3 months without pay any rental bill for those few months?
If yes than how many months maximum it can be remain disconnected and
Is there any fees need to pay for this temporary disconnection, if yes than how much ?

Q4. What is the charge of Airtel's Nokia dual band ONT only if we pay just one month payment but not 3 or 6 months advanced payment?
And Is it a refundable security deposit or permanent payment ?
(don't include Rs1000 Installtion charge).

@SG_curiosity 1. YES. Extra late fees. I think INR 100.

Why would you delay though?

2. No refunds.

3. You’ll need to get a new connection after coming back.

4. It’s free always. INR 1000 installation includes the ONT. For long term plans too it’s free.

@aakshey Q1. Which is the minimum long term advance rental plan which includes complete free Installtion & ONT, 3 months or 6 months?
Some people saying that Airtel guys demanding minimum 6 months payment for free ont & free Installtion. So please clarify it.

Q2. If Airtel fiber dp box is far from house and there is need of long fiber cable says 150-200 mtrs. In that case, will they charge for fiber cable per metre length. If yes than tell me the estimated rate?

@SG_curiosity I think it is 3 months.

2. They will either do it for free or they won’t do it at all. If it is 150-200m, perhaps they won’t do it at all. If they were to charge you for something like this it would probably be in 10’s of thousands.
