Is this used computer safe to buy?

Would anyone here please give me some advice? I found this laptop for sale: http://ahmedabad.quikr.com/HP-2000-2d02TU-6-months-old-15-000-Only-W0QQAdIdZ165116262 I WAS planning to buy a new Lenovo but this HP costs at least eight thousand rupees less and is supposedly still under warranty for the next 6 months. I rang up the seller and he said he would show me the bill of sale, warranty papers etc when he comes to my house tomorrow to show me the laptop. He claims he is selling it after having it only 6 months because he needs money urgently. I recently saw another ad by someone who wanted to sell his lappy after only 10 days and he too claimed he needed money due to some emergency. But when I googled his lappy I saw it has a very inferior processor.So though I would like to get a good deal and buy a lappy that is still under warranty, I also wonder why anyone would sell any lappy after only a few months. I suspect these guys failed to do the research before buying and then found out afterwards the processor is too slow or the lappy has some other problem.I googled and read up various sites on:HP 2000-2d02TUAnd Processor: Intel(R) pentium (R) CPU B960 @2.2GHz 2.2GHzSince those are the specs of the lappy.I found this said on the net: "The B960 isn't a horrible processor, but it is mediocre at best"The seller said it was a dual core, but it doesn’t sound like it and it's never a good sign when a seller lies to you.However I only need the lappy for my writing and research. So, word processing and the internet. I don’t need it for gaming or watching films or doing any video editing. I do want a processor that handles all my needs without being slow like my last desktop, an Intel Pentium 4, was.I googed "HP 2000-2d02TU heating problem" but found nothing.Is there any software I can run to test for any problems in the lappy? The HP service center is near my house and we could take it there so I can get it checked out by them but then would they be able to tell anything was wrong such as overheating if the lappy seemed to be working fine for some time?I remember reading of one HP lappy series that had some lousy screens that died in a year or two. Not this particular series but it left me with some doubts about HP as a brand, especially since my very first desktop was an HP and it always gave me trouble.And he says he has never used an antivirus on it. Friend of mine warned me that one danger of buying a used lappy is that it could have some rootkit infection or something that corrupted it so bad and went so deep it would be uncurable.So can you please recommend any programs that would check for stuff like that and ensure this lappy--or any lappy I want to buy--is virus free and has no other problems such as overheating and an iffy screen? Managed to find two models with comparable pricing from Flipkart and in Anandtech list Intel is slightly ahead.

Thanks. There are various online stories such as flipkart, snapdeal, junglee.com. Which would you say is the most reliable?

Three different techs assured me that the AMD was faster despite the smaller cache size cos the important thing was that it was 3.4 Gz. One told me that makes it even faster than the Intel i5 and i7. And I noticed in one big electronics store that the i5 all-in-ones had a speed of at most 3GZ.

Which laptop brand would you recommend?

If you are buying for the first time, get from flipkart. I don't know much about all other retailers as I only buy from Fk, eBay, Amazon or snapdeal.
And about the dual core AMD faster than i5,its complete BS. An I5 would trash those dual core athlons.
The main reason behind AMD clocking it's processors higher than Intel is because they have lower per core performance and that would show up in single threaded applications.
I personally don't have any specific choice in laptops, but I like the reliability of HP.

Soooo, I expected something like this to be posted here...
Firstly, the benchmarks you posted after this had AMD winning In 26 categories while the i3 won only in about 17.
Now,coming to Intel vs AMD, you CANNOT just post some synthetic benchmarks and claim that Intel is faster. Intel has higher per core performance, while AMD will completely beat Intel in multithreaded programs. Same goes for hsa, where even AMDs small kaveri beats i5s. Also, Intel highest HD graphics are trashed by these APUs. I'm in no way saying that AMD is the king, but you can't just say that Intel is better.
Windows 8 is more optimised for multi core cpus and directx 12 will bring similar improvements. Also, if AMD successfully pushes implementation of HSA, then things may change swiftly....

Between fx and 2nd gen i3,I would any day get the fx. Although if it was a 4th gen or maybe even 3rd gen, then Intel would have been the choice.

I had a quad core amd processor based desktop that i used for 3-4 years. No issues. I now have a quad core i5 haswell. I paid around the same for both the processors 3-4 years apart. I cannot even tell any major difference in performance running Windows 8.1 in day to day work.

I used to assume that all dual cores have more or less the same speed but researching these processors I see advertised on the used site suggests that there is a big difference. Is a 1.8Gz much slower than a 2.2?

For intel, there actually is. the number post the i3/i5/i7 tells you it's generation, so 3xxx processors are 3rd gen, 4xxx are 4th gen.
