Now that I am evaluating Kerala Vision broadband, thought I would create a thread to share my experience. My LCO provides broadband services from BSNL and Kerala Vision, so thought would be good to evaluate Kerala Vision as well.

Getting the account setup was pretty easy, cause there was no need for additional cabling or ONT etc. I shared a photo and ID/address proof doc to the LCO, and the same day evening he setup my account and shared the credentials. The LCO shares the same OLT for all services, so on my end, I just needed to configure my OpenWRT device appropriately.

Initially I didn't get the Kerala Vision VLAN, so I had to reach out to the LCO's tech guy who shared the id. I added the VLAN to the switch (my ONT is a transparent bridge, so I needed no change on the ONT) which created an interface and all I needed to do was add the necessary interface configuration with the PPPoE credentials.

As you can see, they use CG-NAT which is disappointing but other than BSNL and few others nobody else gives public IP addresses. Also I liked the fact that things just worked on first try 😆 (the above screenshot is from my first try to connect)

Will add more details as I explore more.

@varkey how's your both KeralaVision and BSNL FTTH ? Last day I saw a youtube video about BSNL Tripleplay service , they started trial service somewhere in Annamanada, Mala. Have you heard about it ?

@vu3knb I didn't renew Kerala Vision, I just wanted to try it and since the results were poor thought will not renew. Also, my LCO or Kerala Vision appears to have disabled online renewal for my account. The Recharge Now link just refreshes the page.

BSNL FTTH is working alright so far. Occasional slowdowns are there, but nothing bad so far. Other than Kerala Vision and BSNL, I don't really have any other option either. 😅

Had a talk with palakkad engineer in kerala it was about to be run as a test deployment, over here in palakkad. But due to CoViD everything is suffering a set back. Its not that difficult to deploy is what I understood, since most things where ironed out in kochi, during their testing phase.
According to him anywhere between 4 - 5 months after the situation of CoViD settles down,we could see lot of places having these feature of triple play.

Right , KeralaVision is weird, can't trust those guys. Great to know that BSNL FTTH as working as expected. I had to go behind the BSNL folks to re-connect my Wimax , and finally they did it for me. I am the only one Wimax customer at Kalady Section tower now :). Though max speed is only 4Mbps , I can do RDP etc very well. Sadly , they will decommission Wimax by end of April

why the IP classified as "Unknown" ? At times a dynamic IP range starts with 43. has got good performance though...
