I wanted to share an experience I had today with my local LCO and get some opinions from others here.
I use two prepaid broadband connections that were earlier provided by the same LCO on two separate ONUs/ONTs. Since both are prepaid connections and not postpaid, I usually recharge whichever one I want to use depending on the service quality and my requirement at that time. I had already informed the LCO multiple times not to unbind either ONU because of this arrangement, and he had acknowledged it earlier as well.
Before recharging any connection, I normally check whether the ONU is still properly registered/binded. Today when I checked, I found that two ONU had been unbinded again.
I tried calling the LCO several times. As usual, there was no response initially. After repeated calls, he finally answered. I politely explained that the ONU was unbinded and requested him to bind it again so I could recharge and continue using the connection.
But instead of helping, he told me that since I am “not an active customer,” he will only bind the ONU if I recharge a 3-month or 6-month prepaid plan. I told him clearly that I only prefer monthly plans because I previously had a very bad experience after taking a long-term broadband plan where support and NOC response were extremely poor.
What disappointed me more was that he started explaining that he only gets around ₹150 commission per customer, whereas from what I understand, the normal LCO commission structure here is around 60% of the plan value.
Honestly, I don’t understand why a prepaid customer should be forced into long-term plans just to keep the ONU bind and usable. If the connection is prepaid, shouldn’t the customer have the freedom to recharge monthly whenever needed?
Has anyone else faced similar behaviour from their LCO? Is intentionally unbinding an ONU to pressure customers into longer recharges considered acceptable practice?
