LibreOffice

you should check out Download Go-OO! or LibreOffice Productivity Suite - The Document Foundation

openoffice is controlled by sun/oracle which does not allow some components to appear in the official version.

gooo and libre are both forked edition.

gooo is the version used by ubuntu from what i have heard on their website. ubuntu is considering switching to libre now that all the major developers have migrated to it.

Oh got it .
Debian and Ubuntu have been using the Go-OO patched version of OOo for quite some time (e.g. the website link for OOo in Software Center points to the Go-OO site), and according to the Go-OO frontpage, Go-OO will be discontinued now that there is The Document Foundation / LibreOffice:

Nice to see open source applications being promoted.Actually am too searching for open source alternatives for professional apps like Corel

I read the recommendation & deciding to "Obey" it. I need to Office daily. Cant take an unstable version for that.Waiting for the stable release....I needed a help on Libre Office Calc - how do i Password protect it?? I mean Password for opening the spreadsheet itself. I used a password, only to find that it was Password against editing.need a password against opening too.....

Ok, thats an option. But is there any option in the App itself??Regarding confidentiality - well i have maintained a file containing my User ids & Passwords on various sites. Prima Facie, i dont feel the need to protect it, coz neither my PC is attached to LAN, nor anyone else logs in to my PC.I have a single user id to logon & have a password for it. Guest Account is off.Was asking for this, just in case i need to take it along with me on any external media.

i do not have libreoffice installed right now. would download and see what can be done!

Thanks for taking the trouble. But i had already tried that out.And still, my problem is solved.....File----------->Save as----------> In the Dialog box, put a 'tick' against the option "Save with password".Its as simple as that in this Suite!!

LibreOffice comes by default with Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, which I'm running right now :D
