Low budget smart or feature phone

Another low budget device suggestion for a relative.

a) Good Camera - mainly t0 be used to take picture of products & share on whatsapp/email. Previously was using a 5 MP device & camera was average. So atleast equal, if not better.
b) Whatsapp
c) Ability to watch videos

Thats pretty much it is. I do have the Asus Zenfone, Moto E & Xiami Redmi 1s in the radar, but the person is suggesting looking for something in 4k (even lesser if possible ) .

I would still be suggesting increasing budget to 6k and getting the Redmi 1S as it has a very good camera (as per reviews).

I was pushing for that, but someone has spooked him on no service center and Chinese stuff going kaput in days. Anyway I have clearly told him singsong, pony, etc, life's bad etc being way over his budget so at least he would be willing to go for one of the smaller brands...

How soon are android one devices expected in the market as he is likely to try and get a device in a month

Well, I guess. He is OK with Redmi 1s. When is the android one event...so i can plan and close the deal among that...sorry haven't been following much of the tech world news off late

Redmi 1S...go for it...inspite of being chinese and stuff..it is indeed covering warranty even if you Root/Flash/install custom ROMs/brick your phone,which you normally don't find in other phones!!
Besides theres a lot of support you can get online for xiaomi!!
And as far as the specs are concerned,no doubt its the best in that price tag!!
