Guys even on 4mbps my services deteriorate after 12am midnight. I am getting speeds os 0.18mbps and even less and can't browse. Basically its unusable. What could be the cause. What is crc in the below stats? normslly the crc increases by 20 or 30 points. But after 12 midnight or when the issue starts it increases by 100's very quickly Downstream Upstream SNR Margin:15.1 26.0 dbLine Attenuation:46.0 20.0 dbData Rate:4096 1022 kbpsMax Rate:12376 1132 kbpsPOWER:19.3 14.3 dbmCRC:2445 21

@kartoonzWhat is the uptime of your modem since last reboot? I get around 100 CRC errors in a week. Yours may be a bit on higher side. Finally what is your modem make?

CRC is cyclic redundancy check error. It is the data which got corrupted due to noise in the line or faulty modem. Our modems have error correction. CRC errors are the ones which remain uncorrectable. This is the basic idea behind CRC errors. If you have too many CRC errors, you will experience timeouts, connection drops and reduced speed. My first advice to you is to buy a TP-Link TD8817 V7 or V8 modem for Rs. 950.I get 100 CRC errors in 240 hrs and you got 2000+ CRC errors in 6 hrs. That is THE problem.

Kartoonz - I also get 3.5 on my 4mbps plan. But that's the max practical speed per my learned linesman. Drops are quite frequent after 10pm or so. I'm going to try and apply for a new bb line. Let's see. Meanwhile should be getting hathways docsys 3 by end Jan.

This is the first time I'm looking at CRC errors. Quite a few here. Line quality issues I think.

Thanks for the info... i believe its more to do with line issues though as you rightly pointed out...i will first get my dad to speak to the BB incharge this week and ask him to get a direct line from junction box to house...

i also get 3.5mbps... im not asking for more, but atleast the downtimes should decrease... i never had any downtime on 2mbps... yeah the hathway looks tempting....:)

guess we are not alone then :)

Horrible throttling today.
Internet appears slow.
By the way, MTNL is not giving post FUP speeds of 1.5 Mbps as per promise.
I barely get 1.2 Mbps.

Guys, I have applied for the MTNL DSL_8Mbps_1750 plan which is supposed top get activated tomorrow i.e 01 Jan 2014. I download lots of HD movie and TV series torrents. Previous to this I have been on the Xpress_UL_Combo_1550 and have used many of the 2 MBPS MTNL plans over the last few years. In general I have been happy with the services of MTNL. I stay behind Citylight Cinema, Mahim, which is approx 1.2 km from Shivaji Park Telephone exchange.
I have been reading with great interest some of the comments on this plan. It seems people have had mixed experiences. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I get good speeds. Since I stay further than the 1 km radius I am expecting some deterioration in speeds at my residence - but hoping it does not fall below 6.5 Mbps. I will run speedtest and post results once the plan is working.
I have some questions to some of the experts on this forum, sanke1 and kartoonz and others:
1) are there any tests (other than speedtest) to determine everything is working as it should be
2) MTNL has supplied me with Binatone DM 856W wireless modem. It is quite crappy - I get very weak signal in the next room. MTNL has given me the option of buying any modem of my choice from the market and returning the Binatone. Can you guys make suitable recomendations for a superb modem for a 4 room house (700 sq feet) - cost is not an issue.
Thanks in advance to everyone for their help.
Best regards
