MTNL Broadband: Ping issues

Yup this report is true. Cable in the Mediterranean area is under maintenance.
How long will this repair continue for. Listening the same breaking up of under sea cable at Mediterranean every 6 month's (Ships likes to anchor only on under sea cable).:@:D
God help us all.

First of all, he's talking about pings to a Mumbai server.

Many customers are experiencing problems on MTNL at the moment.

As for the SMW4 cable, that's affecting pretty much every ISP in the country.

I'm from Vashi, Navi Mumbai. I'm too getting high ping rates since 15 days around 91 - 111 ms. Earlier it used to be 32 - 45 ms which was fine. But these days it has been horrific.

What to do can't help it. is it because MTNL is adding too many customer's and so it's bandwidth has become low and contention ratio too has decreased a lot (1:22) which earlier used to be (1:45). :ishock::madness:

Can someone send this message to MTNL, "MTNL increase ur bandwidth backbone first and than add new customer's". Making life of 5 yr old customer's horrible.:madness:

MTNLs contention ratio going from 1:45 to 1:22 is actually a good thing. It means there are now only 22 customers competing for every mbit/s of bandwidth instead of 45.

Secondly, MTNL and BSNL probably buy more bandwidth from the international cables than any other ISP in the country. The decrease in contention ratio should reflect that.

mtnl routing is bad...i did tracert on US server...which went from my pc (delhi) to mumbai to hk then to US and in between i found reliance networks..wtf? i mean mtnl is routing thru reliance?...i even c some tata networks in between these routes.@rahul:yes ..is ur gt rv1709? and 1st time ever i got 4 green bars on mw2 on indian host yesterday

MTNL buys from all 3 international cable suppliers (Bharti, Reliance and Tata). It's called having redundant routes.

but y routiing is not done thru shortest path..i mean for US server y does it route thru hongkong?
n in tracert when i c analysis it tells slow response after a particular hop n that hop is generally reliance or tata

Its because the primary route is faulty and they are trying to fix it.I'm on BSNL and my data travels to Tokyo first and then to USA. (just because the primary route is down)

k so on tracert will i always get route thru reliance or tata even after problem is fixed? i mean there must b a route which mtnl itself is providing?hmm another thing i noticed on tracert...mtnl CAT B ISP...wat does it mean?

As far as I know, MTNL-BSNL, both don't have their own routing. They rent it from the big players like Airtel, TATA Communications (VSNL) and Reliance.
And the CAT B ISP, It might be a name used for their specific exchange/equipment routing area/place, something like that.
