I like the direction this thread is taking but seems more appropriate for the humour section now.

I suppose it is funny in hindsight & for other members but for you, socrates & rajdeep it must have been extremely frustrating at that time. I infact think its quite educative to the 'helpful uninitiated' of what to expect from the ignorant & thus educative in its own right. What say?

The one’s mentioned so far can be considered funny/frustrating but there was one last year which was extremely sad :cry:as it spoilt relations with a relative with whom I had v good relations all these years, only because he refused to take the wifi security seriously, Started off by not checking out the different company websites whose url’s I had given him then rushing off to a big dept store near his house instead of Lamington Rd, to buy his wifi router, where they didn’t have any variety, knowledge & old stock to boot & also paying an obscene amount for it. (ultimately I had to waste time in updating the firmware as it was not compatible with the wifi card on his laptop & this person is not a tech ignoramus which makes it even more frustrating by his :iomg:less than casual attitude to security ultimately resulted in, we exchanging hot words at his place, after which I walked out.. Things are no longer the same with us. So these can be some of the pitfalls one can encounter. :O

Hmm. Indeed a thought provoking & sobering post. Thanks for sharing this with us. I will definitely keep this in mind for future use.

All these experiences are actually learning experiences. Helps to understand human nature. "Psychology of the individual" as my fave author used to say. Yes there are experiences like socrates' bitter break but with most of the others, it is possible to see the funny side after the initial irritation has worn off.

:D I know, you were not referring to the DSL 598 walas. So no offense meant none taken. I agree with you totally on the blindly opting for a plan without knowing the different plans available.
I deliberately said modem as many modems have it inbuilt or in some cases MTNL does not give ( I don't know why, its happened in our colony), also did not want to confuse the uninitiated :D This a general comment as I have answered many questions where this is the problem where the member is unaware of this rule.

Sorry I can't find the thread where you answered my question so this is OT here. Just wanted to keep you guys updated.
As I mentioned elsewhere, I had called 1500 and requested for a change to a wireless modem on 15th. They didn't have stock at the time and said it would come in a couple of days. I called again on 18th and they gave me a couple of numbers at my exchange. I called one number and the guy said the modems are ready to be picked up (from Prabhadevi?) but he didn't have a vehicle that day.
This morning I was surprised to get a call from a MTNL guy on my mobile phone telling me that he was going to come and replace my modem. Good service or what?
My misfortune that nobody will be at home during the day till Wednesday so I requested him to come on Thursday.
I have been finding MTNL guys more and more responsive of late. And what's even better, I never go to the exchange. I somehow manage to get the right guys on the phone. Or perhaps my exchange has good people.

@Daddycool: So true & exchanging our experiences helps the uninitiated guys like me. Thank you guys for sharing your experiences with the rest of us.

Try to make ur post count above 20 & then see it again....... i guess admin has put on some restrictions on new members/members with less no. of post !

Have 21 posts now. Still getting the same error message, when I try to change any of my settings.

This month I moved from DSL748 to Freedom497.But there seems to be an error in bandwidth calculation. My usage shows (approx)upload - 400mbd/l - 2800mbtotal vol. - 3200 mbaccounted volume - 5100mbNow for most MTNL plans, accounted volume = d/l, as upload is free. For the new freedom plans, accounted vol shd be = total vol. Then why the difference? And whom to contact in MTNL for this blunder?
