Hello friends .I am facing the same issue as mentioned in this post. I am on 1 mbps dl plan ericsson server. 59.183.x.x series ( byculla exchange) . there is 20-30% data loss while playing online on PS4 which leads to 4-5 seconds lag randomly.this is not comfortable. Getting internet connection reset from 1504 service no. Is also not working out. Sometimes download speed drops by 20-30%. Can you reccomend me what to do?

Ok i had a conversation with local linesman.he said ericsson is good and what to say if you want to shift to SOTL.

Also there seems to be some contradiction and confusion in the thread.@ Panzer please try to answer this questions.

1) 59.183 .x.x range is ericsson or old alcatel?

2)you got new alcatel connection and not SOTL. Right?

3) anyone actually on Sotl can vouch for its latency,no packet loss, upto the mark speed etc?

4) i assume the quality of the server doesnt matter irrespecctive of our exchange center?( mine is byculla)

5) are others facing high packet loss, speed loss on 59.183.x.x series as well?( just as me)

6) also which modulation is everyone on? Auto syncup or Adsl2 plus? And which Dns address?(google or open dns)

@Sher

I had same problem with Ericsson with regards to speed during the day..... change port to SOTL(120.63.x.x) / Alcatel(182.59.x.x)

@realsoccerdude1

1.) 59.183.x.x is Ericsson.

2.) I had asked for SOTL.... but they put me on Alcatel(182.59.x.x)..... I have no complaints though..

3.) As of 1 month using Alcatel(182.59.x.x).... Zero packet loss.... excellent latency.... 23Hrs sessions.... perfect speeds throughout the day.

4.) That is what I am assuming as well.... considering that I am now on 182.59.x.x.... same as @kickass who is in complete different area of the city.

5.) As per my years of experience on Ericsson... some IP range are good..... but most are bad.... so you never know where you will land after a 10Hr session.....

6.) Mostly 8Mbps guys are on ADSL2+ with Annex M...... 2Mbps or below are on G.Dmt

Same Recommendation : Change Port to SOTL(120.63.x.x) / Alcatel(182.59.x.x)...... people at exchange will always tell you Ericsson is good.... but show them packet loss / Timeouts screenshots then they will understand..... OR you can email your port change request with those sreenshots to your area's Appellate Authority

Pinging Google.com with Alcatel Port :

appreciate your feedback but again.new alcatel and old alcatel are different? What is old alcatels ip range and how is its performance? ( asking because when i shifted to 2 mbps from 1 mbps about 2 years back, initialy it worked fine but after november it used to dissconnect every 2 mins.i wrote to dmg and i think they changed my port to ericsson.)

also one more major point is that gdmt and adsl2+ work differentl.the line stats are different on adsl2+ than those on gdmt.adsl2+ has been around for quite some time.can you please check on adsl2+ how the performance is.gdmt itself is slower while gaming online....there is no reason to stick with gdmt if adsl2+ which is smoothr , quicker works fine.....others opinions about this as well. About performance of sotl, alcatel new wit adsl2+

Well...... no one knows for sure which IP range is under which system..... u dont need to worry about it much....

Just ask for port change to SOTL...... then its up to them..... if they want they will give SOTL or Alcatel... as per their convenience.... or free ports in that system....

As for ADSL2+..... I have always used ADSL2+ since 1Mbps.. 2Mbps.... and now on 8Mbps....

From what I understand... use G.dmt only when ur line is unstable.... since it will increase SNR which will make it stable....

I play regularly online...... League of Legends & StarCraft 2...... having zero problems on the new port..... Ericsson wasnt bad for gaming either..... trick was I use to get the dynamic IP into a good IP range before playing....

Nice.. But i cant get ip into good range with 59.183 series.
About gdmt yes ive used it when adsl2+ was unstable but its slow...

So i assume new alcatel/sotp work equally fine on new alcatel, sotl :)

Ok Guys Finally after 3 months of aggravation dealing with the incompetents at MTNL i got my issue fixed.

I've got my port changed from ericcson 59.183.xx.xx to Alcatel 182.56.xx.xx

Ran an hourly test for 12 hours using TestMy.net Broadband Internet Speed Test and the average speed was 6.27 Mbps. The peak to my surprise was 8.04Mbps and the low was 4.78 Mbps

The best ping i get is 7ms

Even speedtest.net with NY as the test server location seems to give me more than 5 mbps which is pretty good during peak hours.

So far only issue i seem to see is that when I FTP files some of them time out randomly.. heard some people had this issue, but at the moment its a minor irritation compared to the 0.2 Mbps speeds i used to get during the day

BIGGEST MISTAKE I DID and which i hope this post will save you from was to waste my time with the assorted exchange folk between who i was shuffled to and fro

Only complain once to the 1504 helpline and save the docket number. If they dont and im sure they wont fix your issue, call up ( dont email) the appellate authority of your area and state your grievance and give them the docket number. Ask the person attending to your call for his/her name and tell them that you are mailing your grievance to the appellate authority email with a CC to the GM broadband. ( CC to the GM seems to give the dead folk there a sudden burst of vitality.. guess some old babu culture never dies)

Dont fall for the "i will get back to you" BS they tell you. Ask them when you can expect a resolution and once they commit to a time, call back and ask them what steps they have taken.

You will need to do this a few times before they realise you arent going to give up easy.

Ask for a port change specifically. They will give you BS about how its possibly due to a cable fault and send those pappu linemen to your house, indulge them, but keep asking for a port change.

Finally they will relent and move you to a multiplexer with a lower load which is what gets you the promised speed in the peak hours.

I have a sneaky suspicion that this is a multiplexer that they have reserved for people who create a hue and cry about speed. All the other poor sods that dont complain or give up are left to overburdened connections where the contention ratio is terrible.

I have uploaded the list of the appellate authorities of the different regions of mumbai here for easy reference : Dropbox - appellate.xls

The current GM broadband is Ms Gunjan Dave and the contact info can be got from

http://mtnlmumbai.in/index.php/contactus

I hope this will save some folk the 3 months i wasted.. and some of it was fun too.. like when MTNL tweeted about the "Digital India Week".. Mr Modi's pet project launched with big fanfare... I posted a screen shot of my shitty speed with direct messages to Ravi Shankar Prasad and Timesnow... strangely even this public shaming didnt evoke any response from them... and they crib about the govt giving breaks to private players... god save india from such incompetents... who are not only incompetent... but even indifferent...

AND in the odd event that they still don't fix it.. this is the final resort : http://tccms.gov.in/

Thankfully I didn't have to go that far :)

Cheers!
