The following setup worked for me, hope it does for u.My adsl router was in pppoe mode, dhcp disabled and ports forwarded. It was connected to one of the LAN ports of the wifi router. Wifi router's ip address set to the same range as adsl modem, dhcp disabled and ports forwarded. PC connected to one of the LAN ports or through wifi. Ip address of pc set in the same range as adsl modem and gateway address of adsl modem.I could access both the router's page and had no problems with torrents with this setup.

it appears that the telnet daemon is not enabled in ur router..u can't reboot automatically unless u have telnet access..try googling for customised f/w for ur model..which if available will surely provide u with telnet access

EDIT: ur model is not supported by most cust. f/w developers..if only u had bought the wrt 54g ver 4.0 or even a buffalo router u wud have been saved all this headache of scripts etc for rebooting..see the following image which shows the auto reboot option on my buffalo router using cust f/w...the same f/w is also available for Linksys wrt54G

@viralbug: i cant change my entire wifi setup now when all i have left to do is figure out how to restart the mtnl session. but i will definitely keep ur wifi config in mind as a last restort.

@cyberwiz: port forwarding telnet to the router is pretty straight forward. i even double checked with the port forward site's guide: Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54GC
and i did follow the same steps.
basically, u forward port 23 to the static ip addr of the pc from which you are running telnet...which i did.
i even forwarded port 23 in my zonealarm security suite's firewall.
still cant access the router through telnet because when i type start-run-cmd-telnet and type 'o 192.168.2.1 23', it gives a cannot connect to host msg.
is there another way to restart my mtnl session through software, without involving the wifi router?
offtopic: is there any app available to list the no., name and/or other details of any/all wifi devices connected to a wifi network?

EDIT: crap, that really sux. i did a little research into which router i wud like to go for and due to having very little technical knowledge on wifi routers, i went for the compact version of wrt54g which is in all a very good router and got good reviews. infact better than wrt54g because it has a much stabler speed of 54Mbps and with version 2.0, it comes with an external antenna too.
but wouldnt that customized firmware work for wrt54gc too?
and is it customized to include a scheduler?

^ wrt54gc is not better than wrt54g ver 4 or wrt54gL..for the simple reason that wrt54GC is not customisable..the features that u have mentioned are really insignificant...my friend has a wrt54G & he has no speed issues..moreover with cust. f/w u can even increase the wireless transmission power of the router..thereby increasing its range..@offtopic: if u see the above screenshot.. there is a wireless lan survey option on the left hand side..it lists all the devices connected to wi-fi n/w of router..in ur case u will hv to try out tools like net stumbler; air snort etc to scan ur wi-fi n/w

wow, i didnt know even a wireless router can be modded to such an extent using just software that it actually can increase its wifi range!
only if i got to talk to u before i bought the router, cyberwiz
actually, i had asked for advise as to which router i should go for on this thread: https://broadband.forum/mtnl-triband-broadband/13543-sharing-mtnl-triband-broadband-multiple-computers-wi-fi-connectivity/
i also said that i had the wrt54gc router in sights and i only went for it coz it has a sleek form factor and has the best reviews around. :ashamed:
but no one commented on my post.
anywayz, its no use cryin over spilled milk....
regarding my wifi setup...i will try viralbug's setup now and also parallely search for a method to reboot/refresh my mtnl triband session using the existing setup i have coz if i cant find one, then i serious have to go for another wifi setup coz not being able to access the modems settings page is a major drawback now coz its coupled with the prob of unable to reboot the triband session.

regarding the offtopic...net stumbler should work gr8 but i think i need to install it on a wifi device, right?
coz my pc doesnt have a wireless adapter and net stumbler doesnt detect any either.
so once i install it on my wifi device, it shud not only detect the wifi network but also other wifi devices connected to this network, right?

Wifi router's ip address set to the same range as adsl modem, dhcp disabled and ports forwarded.
by same range u mean, if the local ip of the adsl modem is 192.168.1.1 then that of the wireless router should be 192.168.1.2?
if thats the case, then wont that coz a conflict between the two and none of their settings page might open?
coz i read somewhere that the local ips for both the devices SHOULD be on two different subset ranges ie.168.1.x and 168.2.x

Ip address of pc set in the same range as adsl modem
again u mean, if the local ip of the adsl modem is 192.168.1.1 then the static ip of the pc wud be 192.168.1.x which is not the same as that of the local ip i set for the wifi router, as mentioned earlier, right?
finally, can i continue to use the old preferred and alternate dns servers that i have been using so far ie.203.94.227.70 and 203.94.243.70
thanx guys.

I had replied in that thread (post #18)..and recommended Linksys or buffalo..but i didnt follow the thread after that....perhaps if u'd have started a new thread then i wud have replied..anyways wat has happened has happened..nothing can be done abt it now..u can try out the setup viralbug has recommended..its actually the same thing which i have recommended in one of my earlier posts in this thread.u can try emailing linksys support on how to enable telnet on the router..regarding netstumbler, yes it needs to run on a PC having a w-fi adapter for it to work.

i now even tried viralbug's setup....adsl 502t modem:-pppoe modedhcp server offlocal ip: 192.168.1.1all ports forwardedconnected to the 1st lan (not internet) port of the wifi router Linksys wrt54gc router:-auto config-dhcpdhcp server offlocal ip: 192.168.1.2all ports forwardedpc connected to 2nd lan port of the router. net connectivity on the pc and the wifi both were working fine but now the nat errors r back!i kept both the devices in pppoe mode, still nat error.when i selected static ip for the adsl modem, i lost access to it completely.i had to do a hard reset of the modem and then restore its settings.im have currently turned off the wifi and have the modem connected directly to the pc. until the modem isnt connected to the wifi router in bridged mode, the nat error keeps occuring.what do i do now?im running out of ideas here.:(

just set it back to whatever was working properly. as you mentioned, you dont need to access the adsl modem page too many times, and if you need to you can connect it directly to the pc and access.

i now even tried viralbug's setup....
adsl 502t modem:-
pppoe mode
dhcp server off
local ip: 192.168.1.1
all ports forwarded
connected to the 1st lan (not internet) port of the wifi router

Linksys wrt54gc router:-
auto config-dhcp
dhcp server off
local ip: 192.168.1.2
all ports forwarded
pc connected to 2nd lan port of the router.

yep, thats the correct improvised setup that i recommended to access both the ADSL and wifi router config pages..

2 q's

1) WHat is the mode that the linksys in now operating on?
2) What is the gateway assigned in lan card TCP/IP properties ?..i hope its 192.168.1.1

there can be 2 reasons for NAT error ..port forwarding has not been done correctly on the D-Link..or the linksys is also natting which needs to be turned off ..BTW have u tried a different torrent client with this setup?

oh yes, i forgot to mention that. try using a different torrent client, maybe like utorrent. azureus never worked for me.
