My Beauty LED, the latest Videocon D2H HD (non-DVR) connection and earlier TATA SKY SD connection

Firstly, nice work done by u in sharing so many pics! Njoi the viewing! Dont know about the others, but since u are amongst us, u will surely hate to watch SD channels, after watching HD.

Now coming to the most recent post of urs.......

1) Yes the Radio service is really good, but u need to find time for it. U have so many HD Channels in the first place. Next if thats not enuf, u have been telling that ur wife also is fond of serials. So i dont think u wud find much time for Radio. Atleast in the initial few months. But yes i very often watch Active D2h HD Music. Even though the songs do repeat, i still watch them, if its a song of my liking. It just looks & sounds awesome, alongwith being ur fav song. Simple as that.
2) Since u have DVR, it surely must get updated to ID 22. Urs looks too old, just like what Ashish has. Dont switch off the STB from mains ever! May be its ok at nights. But try to keep it "ON" for as long as possible. Whenever the update window is opened, u will get massive updates. And since its not updated, we can be pretty sure u r facing some or the other bugs in ur STB.

May be u have missed out, but we can be sure, it isnt immaculate right now! :D

And yeah, u cant do anything except wait. they have a policy to update Over the Air (OTA) only. No one can do anything, until the update window opens.

1) Radio Service is for when there is no mood to watch TV, as I mentioned earlier. My wife avoids serials most of the time and the only sops that we watch are on SAB TV. She was unhappy when I told her that 9XM isnt available on D2H, but after learning that D2H instead has Radio services the matter ended there.

2) Mine is *not* a DVR, so not sure what the correct id is for a normal HD box.

3) I will definitely switch it off in the night as the TV and STB are connected to the same Voltage Stabilizer, lets see if the updates can be downloaded during rest of the day.

They either have their statement wrong or they spelt "apologize" incorrectly...They were able to spell "inconvenience" correctly, but not "apologize". A huge company with such a shabby attitude...
 
Ok, i think i have mixed up some of the other members' facts, with urs at 12:30 AM in the night! :D Chemical Locha u see!If its HD box, then u can just confirm from ur engineer as to which ID is the right one. In HD DVR its 22. In SD Box, i think MAX mentioned that his id is 39.......so there are chances that all the 3 boxes have different firmwares. And that seems logically right too.
 
Nice Thread.............After seeing your BEAUTY, now i am curious to have your review/experience with LG LE5500. Share it if you can please.
 
I just noticed that for my STB the Download Id displayed is 8...if I recall correctly, this is a much older Firmware version... Can any one let me know how to update to the latest version? Just switch off supply from the Mains and start it back or is there something else that needs to be done?

In DVR I use reset with format option to get the latest firmware and software update. bcoz it starts the installtion from beginning where STB checks for updates too. Same way you can try for HD Box. Exactly don't know the steps but i am sure you will find it out :)

I dont think reset with format updates the firmware. Atleast the engineer always told me that Update happens only when it is scheduled. I dont have any other idea on it apart from the words of engineer!

Yeah the more broader the screen the better it looks "GENERALLY", "PROVIDED" u have the input that suits the resolution. :D
 
Hello Everyone...so, it's been more than 72 hours since I have been using the service, and upon careful observation following are the points that I can come up with w.r.t. D2H alone, and also when compared to Tata Sky SD connection...

1. HD channels are more than awesome, they are infact yummy:) Star GOLD scores less when compared to Discovery World HD, NGC HD, etc.

2. I was unable to differentiate much between Movies Now SD and Movies Now HD. Both channels play the same content at any given time, atleast that's what I observed in last 3 days. Picture quality looks almost the same, may be a slight difference, as they say 19-20. Also, Movies Now doesn't have the HD logo, but the Program Guide says Movies Now HD...

3. Having 4 Favourites List is more than a Bonus. However, I was unable to make out what the SORT option is for. Tried it, but nothing happened, except that the channels in the favourites list got sorted in ascending order and then again in descending order.

4. It rained 4 to 5 times this weekend and on Monday in Bangalore and not even once did I lose the quality of the picture, forget about losing the connectivity altogether.

5. The STB hung twice on Sunday, but I was able to get it back on track after switching off the MAINS. Once, it hung when I went to ACTIVE mode to listen to the Radio Channels. It was unable to play the content, I restarted the box and it started functioning normally. Played the radio on Monday and Tuesday, no issues faced then.

6. Channel switching time between D2H and Tata Sky is the same. Tata sky took between 2.3 to 2.6 seconds when observed on a stop watch. Same results were returned by D2H, so I am satisfied personally.

7. Download Id is still 8, so I am not sure how much do I lag in terms of latest STB software. In IT industry, Microsoft patches are applied in a definite cycle, it means that any new patch released by Microsoft will be applied to Development Systems during 1st week of the month, then to QA systems during 2nd week and to all the Production systems during 3rd and 4th weeks. I am assuming that same goes with Videocon and they might have a fixed schedule to release patches for Production Systems (i.e. Customers)

8. As others have observed, you don't feel like going back to the SD channels once you watch HD. But TLC being my favourite I have no choice but to watch it in SD.

9. Sunday match between England and India was an awesome treat to the eyes. Only thing I didn't like was the result of the match:)

10. D2H movies on Channel 271, 271 and 273 are mega bonus. Since I graduated from Tata Sky SD, free movies, that too on 3 channels, and that too alternating, is a Super Bonus.

11. Remote could have been better (not sure about HD-DVR).

12. Was able to successfully open an online account once the website was out of Maintenance on Sunday morning.

Ok, nice opinions!I think u have understood the cycle around Updates - it is fixed, automatic. No 1 can do anything manually. And yeah for correct download id, u can contact ur engineer and ask him what it shud be. He mostly shud be knowing it. And Movies Now HD - after watching Star Movies HD, i realised the difference between the 2. A totally different quality, and ad-less movie watching experience. Thats how, u watch movies!I hope Movies Now HD takes note of this as a channel, and tries to improve. Else on any given day most of us wud prefer Star Movies HD over Movies Now HD.Lastly - remote......yeah its a bit tacky for HD DVR too. It looks almost similar to the one u have got.
