I recently got JioFiber connection, so I wanted to share my experience. I will be comparing everything with my previous ISP (i.e., RailWire). My experience with RailWire was pathetic from every angle and recently their services went downhill even locally, so it was really horrible experience with them. And since 4G/5G signal reception is poor in my area as well, I was really in need of a stable ISP. Luckily, Jio finally decided to start serving my area. xD

So, here’s my experience so far-

Booking:

I have been applying for Jio Fiber since a long time. And finally on April, they said that they will be providing connection here in a month or so. They finally came to do booking on 31st May.

Their agent told me that they are only providing Postpaid connection here and I will need to pay for three months in advance. And I can change the plan later from the app.

I said it is fine, since there will always be someone in my home who will be using the connection. So, there won’t be any month when I won’t be using it. Also, it didn’t require security deposit for the connection and STB.

I did the payment and the agent told me that the connection will be installed by tonight or tomorrow.

Installation:

They scheduled the installation for 1st June 11 AM to 1 PM. They arrived at 10:50 AM and started working quickly. It took them like 30 minutes for wiring and then they started setting up the STB with my TV. There was some issue with STB and their router, and they had to change both. After a little while, connection was finally active.

They setup all the apps in Jio STB and then finally left at like 12:30 PM. ;-;

First Day:

I was quite happy with the way it was working. Everything was fast. Download speed might not be full but I was quite happy that I won’t have to deal with disconnections often.

However, after like an hour or so, it disconnected and red light was blinking on Jio ONT. Connection was restored in like 10 minutes.

After like another hour, it disconnected again, and it took like three hours for it to reconnect. I was quite worried after this. I felt like God doesn’t want me to have stable internet. I mean, what else can I think? xD

It disconnected again after a little while and this time, RailWire was also disconnected. So, there was no internet for a long time except slow mobile internet.

At night, I decided to raise service request with Jio. Also, decided to try reconnecting the green wire which connects to the ONT. I did it and then powered on Jio ONT.

After like five minutes, it finally connected again. So, turns out, they didn’t fit the wire properly and that’s why it was having issues.

Next day they arrived (the same people who did installation) and took pictures that internet is working fine. Also gave me their number and asked me to call them directly for at least a month for any issue, as they may face issues if I raise SR right now.

Speed on Jio Fiber:

So, I am having 150 Mbps plan where I am mostly getting 130-144 Mbps speed. Upload speed is mostly 144 Mbps. Compared to RailWire, it is a bit slower since they usually gave full 150 Mbps when it works. However, I am mainly happy about it simply working all the time.

Also, one thing I found is that Jio have great speed to every server I did speed test on. It is fast in international and Indian servers both.

If you don’t consider the hard capped speed, I don’t have any problem with speed in Jio Fiber.

Update: They are now giving me full speed, as per my plan, or higher. So, there is no downside of JioFiber anymore. :)

The best part of JioFiber for me have been web browsing experience. It is really fast.

Ping/Latency:

It is fine here. I am getting anywhere around 29ms to 38ms in Mumbai servers. It varies for some reasons. In Valorant, there are matches where I will get 29 ms, 32ms, 35ms and 38ms on average. So, that’s kinda weird. It varies by the match, so if I leave a match and then get into another one, my ping could be different.

For Singapore servers, I get 82ms on some servers and 92ms on the others (like Valorant’s SG server).

One thing I noticed is that, while the gaming experience is great on JioFiber, ping stability isn’t as stable as in RailWire (though I am talking about the temporary stability, since RW's ping used to be 42ms at one point and 242ms the other). I had only one screenshot of RailWire ping, so used that here.

Here’s the example:

RailWire (on WiFi):

JioFiber:

There is a ping spike on RailWire screenshot because of some Windows 11 bug on Wi-Fi. And I took JioFiber ping screenshots over Ethernet. You can see RailWire have super stable ping even on Wi-Fi while there are quite a few Ping jitters on JioFiber. Overall experience is better on JioFiber though.

Update (4 Oct 2023): These ping jitters were due to old ethernet drivers on my laptop. Jio have fairly stable ping

Here’s JioFiber on CloudPing:

Bufferbloat:

This is quite high on JioFiber. I can improve the condition by using my router settings, but I am the only one who downloads big files. So, it doesn’t matter much. However, if you want to use Wi-Fi calling and you’re downloading something big then good luck with your call.

RailWire had quite high bufferbloat ever since they started using Odisha (it was like A+ grade earlier) as my local gateway too. So, I am not really having any worse experience. xD

JioFiber ONT/Router:

I got JCOW414 ONT which is manufactured by Sercomm Philippines. I would say it is kinda shit.

In like three days of use, the experience over Wi-Fi goes downhill badly. Websites and apps like YouTube, Reddit, WhatsApp works sluggishly. I cannot find any difference in ping or internet speed but the responsiveness on those websites and apps become clearly slow. It starts working fast again after I restart it.

While ā€œmobile gamingā€ over Wi-Fi, I can’t find any difference in ping, but the experience was pretty bad in those ā€œslow responsivenessā€ times.

At last, I decided to use my Archer A6 for Wi-Fi and everything is working great now.

Conclusion:

Well, this is the only reliable ISP in my locality for now. So, I would say it is working great. Jio has started giving full speed (according to their plan) in some places, so I hope they will start doing that here as well. xD

I dont have any ping related issues while playing fortnite or warzone on my PS5. My parents watch a lot of tv mostly prime or netflix. I even play while watching livestreams sometimes and i will not have any ping issues. My PS5 is connected to 5ghz wifi not even ethernet. Maybe your router is causing this issue.

Mine is connected directly with Jio router via Ethernet. Also, I can see that the ping spikes only to the internet gateway while watching streams, so I don't think it is the router. Could be my local issue, that's why you're not facing it.

Firstly, Let's start with Jio Fiber.
1. My Plan
: Prepaid - 300 MBPS | It cost me around Rs. 1,770/Month (including taxes) | Installation Cost : Rs. 5,000
I think Installation Charges is too much for any regular customer. They just installed 3 - 5 meter wire from nearby Box to House and i think it shouldn't be over 3,000 - 2,500.
2. Customer Service -
After using it for 1 month, I've to put complaint at JIO website (there is no customer executive for calls just bot messages which is pathetic) and got myself 1 Engineer visit after 3 days (from the day of complaint - assigning the Engineer - visit of Engineer) which is very slow from my perspective as it should not take more than 48 hours for Engineer visit. I've told him about the High Ping - Latency issues from the JIO Fiber. He said "he doesn't know anything about it" despite being Engineer he doesn't knew anything regarding this matter and so i got myself another Engineer assigned and he said "this is common issue in Jio Fiber and it can't be fixed due to backend servers" and after that i've asked for NAT Type : Open or Port Forwarding and he said it is not available option in the Jio Fiber
After using Jio Fiber for 3 months, Our Locality got some landslides (H.P. State) and it took them 1 month to recover Fiber Line (which is too damn slow) and I lost trust in Jio Services after that.
After using Jio Fiber for 6 months, I faced the problem with Router again and need to pay Rs. 1,500 for getting another router from the service provider. This time, It got internal chip burn due to making it active for 24x7 time and got overheated, which is expected because there Router is made in China and i didn't expect it's life time more than 1 year from the day i bought it.
3. Download/Upload Speed : At the 1st day, I got myself 1 month free Trial which is good to know your ISP before going further to invest in it. I got myself 150 MBPS Free Plan for 1 month even though i applied for 300 MBPS but still i didn't got charged for that month which is very good. Download Speed : 130 - 140 MBPS and Upload Speed : 150 - 160 MBPS. Download speed is bit of disappointed because when I tried to download Sea Of Thieves (108GB) from Steam, There i got around 13 - 14 MB/s which is around ~120 MBPS and I tried to change Steam Servers from Mumbai - Delhi - Kolkata - Chennai etc. and still there is same speed which i'm getting. It's not even nearby or above from 150 MBPS which is expected from any ISPs. Even after doing Complaint for speed issues, I still got around that speed.
After my 300 MBPS plan got activated, I usually got 32 - 33 MB/s which is around ~270 MBPS and still got disappointed from the JIO Fiber. I tried to change LAN Cable and still there is no reliability i can see and speed remains same. So, Plan speed was never provided to me except doing Speedtest on Speedtest.net
4. Latency - Packetloss : I did test of Latency in different games and found that JIO Fiber got Ping fluctuations after every 10 - 7 seconds and still got same answer from ISP due to Backend issues. Avg. Ping : 40 - Min. - 32 - Max. : 200 (this is from Valorant Match, Mumbai Server) As you can see the fluctuation ratio in it. Packetloss is around 0 - 2% which is good but Ping is not reliable. Bufferbloat Rating : C
5. Landline (VOIP) : I would never suggest anyone to get yourself JIOFiber Landline. It will work for few hours / day and then it will be down for whole day. When you try to connect with 5GHZ Band from Phone, You will never get VOIP Option on 4G SIMs and only get VoLTE. So, This thing is pathetic from JIO Fiber. Never recommend Landline additional installing or configuring from Jio. It sucks from there end and Voice is not even clear from Landline to any ISP calls either Outgoing or Incoming. There will be cracking sounds in it whenever you call.

Secondly, Let's talk about Airtel XStream
1. My Plan
: Prepaid - 200 MBPS | It cost me around Rs. 1,765/Month (including taxes) | Installation Cost : Rs. 1,000
Installation Charges is already mention to be Rs. 1,000 and it is affordable for any normal individual. They put up 5 - 7 meters wire from the nearby Box to House.
2. Customer Service : When my Airtel XStream got installed, It started to work normally like any other ISPs and faced no difficulty while using it.
I got myself to contact Customer Care and they assigned me Engineer visit. Engineer come to my house within 48 hours and I've to get him configure my router for Port Forwarding and Virtual Private Server and so he did it but took him 1 week to configure whole settings as he is not that much knowledgeable regarding it and got myself fully functionable after 1 week. I got different Engineer visit after him but got my thing resolved.
Faced 3 weeks down in my Area (H.P.) due to landslide which took them 3 weeks to get it resolved. It is too long duration for them to resolve and i got bit disappointed because I thought they will recover it within 1 week but it took them 3 weeks same for there Mobile Network tower in our area, It took them 3 weeks to get it back to work (I think due to Battery issue in the locality tower which is installed). There was no issues rather than the above mentioned ones. All works fine.
3. Download/Upload Speed : I got myself above 200MBPS speed whenever i try to download anything from the internet. Example : I got myself Download Genshin (60GB) and I got speed of 26MB/s which is ~205 MBPS and during the upload of 20 GB Video (Youtube) I got myself Speed of Appx. 220 MBPS which is good and promised by the Airtel XStream Fiber. Sometimes, Speed goes down for 5 - 10 seconds but it is normal in all ISP. Except this, I don't face any download/upload issue while watching/streaming any video or things either on PC/Console/Mobile Phone.
4. Latency - Packetloss : I did the test of Latency and Packetloss in different - different games and found that there is no fluctuation in the Games and most of the games are working smoothly without any Packetloss. Avg. : 39ms | Min. : 36 ms | Max : 41 ms (This is from Valorant Game, Mumbai Server). Note*: You will get constant ms in every game because you will connect to Mumbai particular server for playing and so there should be no ping different in all games except Location of your house and Server Vary these things but not ISPs in your locality. BufferBloat Rating : A
5. Landline (VOIP) : Didn't used the basic landline but VOIP is working fine in the phone using 5GHZ Band.

Lastly, Let's Talk about BSNL Fiber
1. My Plan
: Postpaid - 200 MBPS | It cost me around Rs. 1,530 / Month (including Taxes) | Installation Cost : Rs. 2,500
Installation Charges including Modem, Landline and Wire fitting by the Vendors and It varies from Place-To-Place. 1 Box nearby Poll has been installed and 3 meter wire has been put from Box to House.
2. Customer Service : When my BSNL Fiber got installed, Landline and Internet connection got started to work just after 5 minutes from installing the router (Jio took 3 hours and Airtel took 1 day) which is extremely satisfying for me. I got myself to contact Engineer for configuring VPS and Port Forwarding. Engineer visited my house within 48 hours. He is very knowledgeable in this matter and got my Router configured within 1 hour. I don't know what it took him 1 hour but i think he contacted someone in ISP and got something configured from the backend.
It is easy to configure Router and I got the option to make my NAT Type : Open - Moderate - Strict easily and after Engineer made the changes for things, I'm able to do port forwarding myself after few instructions of router and settings.
Faced 48 hours Down due to Landslide (H.P.) which got restored there Line within 48 hours which is very much faster and satisfying than other Private ISP. I never expected them to fix it under 1 - 2 weeks but they did it within 48 hours (in our whole District, Confirmed from another Friend). Customer Care is Ok but There Engineers are extremely Good. There was no issues than the above mentioned ones. All works fine.
3. Download/Upload Speed : I got myself above 250 MBPS speed everytime whenever i download or upload any file or game. Example : I got myself download Black OPS Cold War (150 GB) from the steam and got myself 30 - 32 MB/s which is appx. 255 MBPS and this is only on 200MBPS Plan. Same for the uploading/streaming any video, It gives speed around 31 - 32 MB/s which is appx. 260 MBPS. This is not expected from BSNL but they did a great job in there Fiber services. There is no down of speed while downloading or uploading any file. Speed stay above 200MBPS and sometimes got down from 250 MBPS to 210 MBPS which is Perfect because I've only chosen 200 MBPS Plan and still getting 250 MBPS
4. Latency - Packetloss : I did the test of Latency and Packetloss in diff. - diff. games and found that there is no fluctuation in the Games and most of the games are working smoothly without any Packetloss. Avg. : 37ms | Min. : 34 ms | Max : 40 ms (This is from Valorant Game, Mumbai Server). To make sure myself, I've tested it on . BufferBloat Rating : A+
5. Landline (VOIP) : BSNL provided Landline Box and so i got it installed and started using it. Generally, I use it to contact with my Friends/Family because it provide more clear voice. BSNL Landline is best in terms of Voice and Conversation. Never faced any cracking sound while calling anyone. VOIP works fine using 5GHZ Band on phone device.

Conclusion : Before Buying BSNL Fiber, JIO Fiber or Airtel XStream Checkout the above mention aspects as it can vary from place-to-place for every individual.

From my preference, If i ever have to choose ISP? I would prefer BSNL

User : BSNL - 3 years | JIO - 2 Years | Airtel - 2 Years | (Fiber)
