my sister needs a new laptop, i would probably like her to go with new gen amd zen 3 cpu if they are launched here in India, budget i don't know she needs for office work, not gaming etc. So something like i5 with ssd of 500gb should be good enough.. but probably go with amd if they got their new gen processors

AMD 4000 series are still expensive... It will take some time to hit the main stream market as right now 3000 series are in the forefront. So if AMD is your bet, you would have to wait for costs to come down or go with 3000 series.
If going for Intel then I would suggest you to go only for 10th gen processors (they still are less power efficient Viz a bid Amd).

Asus vivobook has been recently launched fir around 42,000 with 512 gigs NVME and 3500U AmD. Don't expect any company to give you 550 gigs with SSD.

If she can loosen her purse, I would recommend to go for LG gram series. They are MacBook equivalent (on a serious note, no gimmick. It weighs less than a kilo, built like a tank yet can survive hard crash). She will love it. It also has option for upgrade both Ram and NVME, so it's secured for long term. It's available on Amazon for around 65,000. Just cross check on LG website about specs to confirm options on upgrading.

Check Jerry rig videos on lg gram, you will get an idea.

light weight is really a need of the hour..and price should be coming down now, been so many years now. i could only find LG Gram 14Z990 for 70k for 250 ssd looks expensive, is it latest model ? or is there any new model with better cpu ? i am not really well connected with laptops right now.

thanks for fast response :)

LG prides itself on durability and upgrading ability to justify its cost. You can head over to their shops to see if they are giving any good discounts. My friend brought it recently from Delhi for around 65k base variant from an LG shop with additional 7k for upgraded 512 NVME and another 8gigs. As he was paying in cash he did get a discount.

Head over to their shops to get a first hand feel. Btw, those Acer series look good too. You need to ask them if you can upgrade it in future.
If interested in Gram, let me know your queries. I will pass it over to him.

ya i own most of my electronics from LG nexus 5x, water purifier, lg tv ( though recently it seems to be stuttering the picture tube ) , even my current 4k monitor is from LG :)

but LG the laptop is around 70k, 2018 model, with 8th gen i5 makes sense to buy now in 2020 ?...she is in Mumbai, i think shops are not open nor she would probably like to go out, i think probably online option is good !

Get Mi Notebook if possible.
Believe me,I have bought Acer swift series for my family members and screen sucks a lot.
I usually have no issue with PWM and TFT but swift got the best of me

Just gifted it to cousin and got myself Mi.
Remember,Mi has prebuild with no ram extension,no ethernet port, only sad can be replaced.I still think 8 gigs of Ram is more than enough. But you know, windows is a hog.
If she gonna use linux, get MI.
Else, choice lies with you.But please do not go for Acer swift series
But still, the bargain is great screen which is antiglare.
Also, battery and charging speed are lit.
I rest my case here....
Make good choice

Ouch... That's a bummer. I am in Mumbai so yes, I get you. Shops are not yet open.

You will need to prioritise what she demands from a laptop and the price she is willing to spend. Is she looking for upgrading in future. Also is battery life important or is she fine being connected to the adaptor.

You can have a look at Asus vivobook. I just saw the review from Geekyranjit. For the price, it's ok barring the screen.

I agree, the processor is kinda dated, the new series Gram laptops cost above 1-2 lakhs(they are designed as pure Mac replacement).

Another option is Lenovo 730. It weighs around 1.1 kgs.
