Hmm... above explanation looks logical, but I doubt about this -
The rep said ,the software technicians are checking if normal STBs (i.e normal Tata Sky Stbs which has mpeg2) ,are able to grap up Mpeg4 signals,so that existing customer dont have to upgrade there mpeg2 STBs.
once it is succesfull, channel count will be increased

As video processor capable of decoding MPEG-4 is needed along with software, no idea if current STBs are capable of it, though I guess TATASKY PLUS STBs are MPEG-4 compatible.

Tata Sky DTH is providing MPEG2 so obviously the recording in Tata Sky DTH+ which is MPEG4 compatible will have pixels.

:hysterical: this is funniest post I have seen for sometime now.how can Tata Sky DTH mpeg2 stb get Mpeg4 signals. Those STB even if they tune will show the channels are 'Radio' and not as TV channels. Never believe those CC :@

The upgrade has been made to increase the rec.capacity they have not mentioned about increase in channels for now.

I don't know but I guess finally they thought like me... please read here.. i had mentioned the technical and logical feasibility for adding more recording hours in Tata Sky plus in my own review.. when I came to know that it had 160 GB HDD..

Tata Sky Plus has 160 GB of HDD but only 80 GB is used for recording. Rest is used for live pause feature, which according to me is too much because you can only have a buffer of 90 minutes for any channel. As soon as you move to a different channel the old cache gets deleted and Tata Sky Plus starts recording the new channel and keeps the last 90 minutes in buffer. OK, my whole point is that 90 minutes and Tata Sky Plus Operating System could have been managed in max to max 10 GB space. The rest of the space could have been utilized in recording. So basically Tata Sky Plus could house at least around 70 hours of recording compared to 45 hours now.

My Tata Sky+ Review :P

It will be really great if in near future the slots will be made to provide Ethernet, USB and modem function.

Interesting! Hopefully next they'll sell the new TS+ sets under a much lower cost..

When they sell it at a lower price, I will be the first one going for it!

Diwali was the offer period where price dropped substantially its sale excelled and they have immediately obtained this benefit of doubled recording capacity.More offers to be expected Tata Sky+ rockss:thumbsup:

wow ... 90 hrs recording..... too cool:cool2:

wow ... 90 hrs recording with reduced bit rate, that too under already overcompressed channels..... too cool:cool2:

It came for lower price during deepavali/dewali, why you didn't go?

I don't find any logic is there, if you know some thing about processors and decoders.

I didn't see Tatasky+ can receive MPEG4 as they haven't claimed that it will receive mpeg4.

Hi Guys,
3)Now with the recent software upgrade, the STB is able to save the recorded contents in mpeg4 format, thus compressing the reocorded mpeg2 files to mpeg4 format and adding more recording space. And thats the reason why the software upgrade happended first in normal tata sky and then in tata sky plus.

When did normal TS stbs started recording? This itself proves those CCs know nothing.

So it is impossible to add any more channels?

So,i just got a ray of hope from tata sky and i hope this comes true as soon as Possible.

Hoping for a hopeless thing. CC informations are far from truth.
