Windows 8 Pro includes downgrade rights to:

Windows 7 Professional
Windows Vista Business

This might be useful information for people avoiding Windows 8 based laptops because they want Windows 7 instead.

well you have to check if your system is eligible. but i guess any laptop shipping with the oem copy should be. read through the document and see if it works for you. personally i do not see the point. windows 8 performance is much better than windows 7.of course. it applies to the pro edition of windows 8.

If Metro UI is the major hindrance, then I guess you have some tools which can easily bypass & load directly into the old Desktop etc. Or unless you have some compatibility issue with some particular critical apps, I dont see the need really to downgrade.

hmy: for the love of god why? if you do not like the metro interface, just install any launcher app.Dell would probably offer the cheaper variant on budget segment models. and they usually charge a small fee to upgrade to the pro version. i do not remember the restrictions on the cheaper model. but it should not be a major botheration for a regular user. pro edition usually comes with advance features like bitlocker and file history.
