I don't think that Opendns has blocked any sites. I am using Opendns. I could open hxxp://www.newegg.com/ without any problem. But it seems that the site has some server problem. Sometimes it is not opening. Even if you feel any site blocked by Opendns, type 'ping -t site name' in RUN box and get ip address of the site. (ex. hxxp://www.newegg.com = 216.52.220.234). Type the ip address into your browser. This way your browser will go straight to the site bypassing dns server.The work of dns server is only to convert text address into ip address. Nothing else.

OpenDNS does infact block sites and they even maintain a huge database of sites to be blocked which could be found here. OpenDNS Community > Domain Tagging

This morning when i tried opening an online proxy page, i got an opendns page saying that the page fell under the "anonymity/proxy" category and hence it was blocked. I later tried to open a porn page to figure out what was happening and it was blocked too.

Im using OpenDNS and it's working fine now. In the morning, i think the public IP i got came under some kind of a block list. I should have logged out and logged back in to double check before making this thread. A one in a million situation i fell in i guess.

if you have an opendns account you can block access to some sites. this setting is connected to a particular IP. if that IP is not released and someone else lands on it and is using opendns, the settings would still be applicable.

Yup, thats what seems to have happened to be earlier. At least i got to learn about this new OpenDNS feature that i never knew it had. I had tried netnanny and like softwares for personal use but this is way better and much effective plus i don't have to install anything.

well you can install the tiny app they provide to keep the IP updated so that your preferences are connected to your connection!

I had this problem for about a day. It took me some time to figure things out, as OpenDNS tells you it has blocked a certain page or something. Once I made changes to my account haven't had any issues. And I didn't use that tiny app. that one of the posters has said. It wastes disk space,networking speed and memory. If you really look into its similar to bittorrent announce url used by your bittorrent client. Its only a reverse DNS lookup it does from time to time.
