Please provide tips to improve battery life on Samsung Galaxy 551

I have turned all the background updates off. No sync, twitter, gmail, facebook etc. I noticed one thing, when I put my phone on Airplane mode, the battery was steady for good 2 hours.I switched onto the normal mode, and then there was a quick 2% drainage. I have also replaced the wallpaper with a pure black one (got this done by following a trick on some android forum which said that a full black low size wallpaper helps save battery)A guide for battery saving on Galaxy 551 would be very helpful.P.S. The phone is awesome. Touch is wonderful and I am liking the android experience. Plus, the hardware QWERTY keyboard is good compared to samsung touch keyboard. But i still need some tips to save battery.

black size wallpaper would only probably help you if you have an amoled display.

I restarted my phone. All sync & background update is off.I noticed a big difference. The RAM usage is very low now. In between 90 - 110 mb. Wonder how that happened. :OPlus, the battery is steady now.I'll try the 'switch off & charge' trick and post the effect. Thank you!

android 2.2's memory consumption dropped down massively i believe. but then on a fresh rebooted device, you are going to notice less consumption. just like a computer.

I turned off 'Auto rotation' off too. Battery works good. Phone gets charged better when switched off.Battery backup is not bad at all. Many people leave the background updates switched on and so the battery drains out.

well, i was just experimenting and noticed that battery is saved!i'll again try with auto rotation switched on.

The brightness in my phone is very less and screen timeout is 30 sec.The battery comes for a day and half after gud usage of frequent fb & twitter checks (not background), internet & Gmail. 2 hrs of calling a day
