Well... thats not gonna make any difference to them.

On TV they are announcing, "BIG TV DTH Launched with 200 Channels" - we still have 186 channels only!!!

Liars...

This is a BIG joke -
- Look at their website - completely doesnt look professional

- Look at their consumer offer and price - 1490 Price + 1000 Installation = Rs. 2490 - nothing competitive

- STB still gets slower

- Still missing lots of features

- Still not added all channels (less than 200 as advertised)

- STB software not updated since 2-3 days

- Problem of signal loss is still exist

- Quick Menu showing wrong program information

- Picture pixellation started again.....

and lot many things that need to be sorted out or improved and these guys are now in a hurry to launch!!!!

Anyway, today i saw "AirTel" dish in my area. That seems that they have already made a soft launch and will arrive any time before end of the year!!! (It is a white dish - same as BIG TV dish and have an "AirTel" logo on it)

well once airtel and videocon are launched , prices will come down and we consumers will have a gala time:whistle:

Well..... you all are mistaking. In 20th century, when 1st TV company started selling TVs, must have kept a very very higher price. Then we have lots of competitors - Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Hitachi, LG, Samsung, Videocon, Philips, Onida, BPL, Thomson, TCL - many many TV selling companies but did they reduce prices or service cost? NO. They only reduced CRT prices in 21st century when LCDs and Plasmas arrived. I think, VU company is selling 32' LCD at around 30,000 only. Did it make any difference to SONY 32' Bravia LCD? No. They didnt reduce their price in competition!!! So forget about competition and price reduction. Yeh companies bhi mili huyee hoti hain. Outside world, they show they are competitors and yes they are but for earning profit from public - they are friends. They make a limit to keep their min prices - they dont go beyond that. Wait and watch - airtel and videocon will also introduce at the price of 1500 - 2500 and not less than that. (if you expect them to give you a dish, stb, remote and installation at 500 or 1000 - FORGET IT - may be only possible after 40-50 years when something else would be introduced).

I would agree to that but only partially, but mean there would not be drastic price differences but consumer is sure to benefit with more players coming in...Why not take comparison of cell phone services in india....

@designwebgraphics, I have a doubt regarding STB. The picture of STB on updated site seems to be similar to what you have. Features - Set-Top-Box Front Panel

I believe whenever you talk about newer STB (ver 2.0 or so), you refer to another STB which looks very different, right? (something like this: .:: Altech UEC ::. - Solutions for the worldwide Digital Pay Television and Interactive Television (iTV) market)

If so, does that mean slowing down, heating and worse- "hanging" will be applicable to STB's even after the launch???:P

Yeh, there are few things that have been changed and we dont know which of them they will be supplying to consumers. Version1.0 Remotes have ICONS on the buttons (hard to recognize which button is for what if someone new from a family/friend is operating) Version2.0 Remotes have TEXTS (below buttons) and ICONS on the buttons (easy to know which button is for what function) I guess, the newer hardware will not have any problems. Since last 2-3 days i think i seen few new problems.[1] Its losing signals anytime in a day/night. No matters its cloudy or not. Sometimes its a bright sunny day and its losing signals. Sometimes there are not even darker clouds and its losing signals.[2] Its losing the voice.[3] After losing the voice, its losing pictures completely. We either have to switch off or have to run "Factory Reset" (which takes 4-5 minutes) and then it starts on again. Its very disgusting and irritating to do all these while watching our fav prog. Reliance should not have launched it now. They should have been waited for their techies to resolve all these issues. as they already launched it (despite of other good things), customers will target these few minus points and will point a gun on their reputation. I guess, thats what Anil Ambani means for a "bijness" (business). I think, he gives more important to quantity rather quality and throw lots money on marketing rather R&D and further improvements (to provide THE BEST out of all)

Later came to know that the user guide on their website (customer care section: http://www.bigtv.co.in/bigtv/html/pdf/BIGTVUserGuide.pdf ) has details about both STB's. Upon having a glance at it, I saw two noteworthy differences between two models-

* Model-2 seems to be more capable since it has a S/PDIF connector (digital surround sound connection for AV receivers), whereas model-1 doesn't have it. Whether or not any of their broadcasts support surround sound is a different question though... I am sure marketing folks would highlight it if they do:P
* Model-2 has an "CI" slot in addition to smart card, which model-1 doesn't have. So, model-2 might be actually inter-operable (may be used with different DTH providers)??

Well.. Bottom line is - I am HIGHLY SATISFIED with picture quality and sound. The only thing i hate is their STB and Remote (if they change, i will be the happiest person).I also calculated their packages - it is of course less than cable wala.Cable guys charge us Rs. 300 to Rs. 400 where as BIG TV highest package is worth Rs. 175 (lets add 1 more add-on for any of your required regional channel package worth Rs. 30 and it would be just Rs. 205) - thats it.I dont require Star Cricket every month!!! I get Star Movies with it then i dont require HBO (as add-on as i dont have that much of time to watch each and every movie on both of those channels), I dont require CNN as BBC is already included and i dont have time to keep watching world news on both of those channels. So, its just Rs. 205 till now and even if i add any other addon worth Rs. 25 it would be around Rs. 230 to Rs. 255 or even maximum it would be Rs. 270 to Rs. 280 but as i dont need to watch each and every other channel, i am satisfied with the highest package (worth Rs. 175) + a Regional add-on (worth Rs. 30) and total of Rs. 205 a month - if you see closely, other sports channels like Star Sports, Ten Sports are all included. (Only have to pay for Neo Cricket, Star Cricket, Zee Sports - and only for a month when they telecast indian cricket matches else i dont require all those channels). Most of the time, i too observed that SET MAX reserves rights for important matches so doesnt matter at all. it is definitely included in 175 package too. Better than cable charges (Rs. 300 to Rs. 400)Better than cable quality (even better than CAS as finally its a cable only)Better than keep calling them every other day for quality, sound etc...Better than other DTH of courseBetter than wire breakage problem of cable guysBetter than someone jumps with their illegal cableDEFINITELY BETTER THAN CABLE and OTHER DTH

Today, i am feeling that the pixellation problem has gone off now. Quality is superior than DVD. (Close to HD Quality). I feel so!Specially 9x channels are at their best. CNN, BBC are also 200% crystal clear (close to HD):thumbsup:BIG TV is only for those who want Quality TV Viewing Royal Experience - Not for those who doesnt want to pay 300 Rs. for cable tv and only want to switch over to DTH to save money (and bring monthly expense to 150 to 250).
