Reva electric cars officially launched in Delhi

New Delhi, 25 June 2008: After 13 years of research and development, India's first electric car 'Reva' was launched in the national capital by Delhi Chief Minister,....

hi i have recently came across this blog , stating Reva as a city car , I m looking forward to buy a car near diwali , seriously looking forward to consider Reva ...... first read the blog The tiny little Reva challenges the beefy Q7 to a speed duel in the city! Does it win?… well … you have to wait for the answer… the race is on between Reva and Audi in the city of Delhi on the busiest roads of Chandini Chowk. The Route starts from Noida and snakes through the jam packed roads of Delhi, and then back to Noida. Both cars are to start together and carry a passenger each along with the drivers. The Audi takes off with a swoosh, and the Reva seems to have lost the race already. But with true sportsmanship, it gets started. On the first lights Audi was way ahead of the Reva. Hey wait on guys the race is not finished as yet, true test started when they reached the busiest roads of Delhi i.e. Chandini Chowk. Which means numberless cycle –rickshaws with 15 school kids hanging out on them , car parked three wide, buses moving at snail’s pace and of course , countless pedestrians and scooterists, who don’t care about traffic rules . Guess what happens to our mighty Audi with its top speed at a whopping 203kmph, it was at a standstill unable to take steep ‘U’ turns and jamming the entire traffic, chorus epithets flowed from the public, who were annoyed by this barge blocking their way, and for our Reva to conquer traffic was like child’s play finding its ways through narrow lanes, making all speedy moves to get through the traffic. On the way back, with a speed limit of 60kmph on Delhi roads and zipping through traffic meticulously, Reva turns out to be the winner to everybody's bewilderment.

Well the two biggest shortcomings are:

#1) It's small, so no luggage space. Practically a two seater.
#2) You will get laughed at.

(I am not including the max. speed, as you specifically mention that you need it for the city).

its pretty popular in chandigarh and some of the southern cities. but in a city like gurgaon, you would certainly be mocked.but it does have the advantage of being tiny. and you would not be very worried about getting scratches on it.

with the disadvantages already mentioned, i would still recommend it, had it been cheaper (initial cost)

if your usage is very high, then perhaps go for it 'coz now even diesel is at 40 bucks

REVA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

^^ this says

REVA has a \"running cost of just 0.4 rupees/km\" (40 paisa/km)

can anyone confirm this, because then i'm paying more than 10 times in city

i am paying close to Rs. 4-5 in my swift petrol in city driving.REVA would turn out to be as expensive as power is in your city/state.also, the batteries would of course die down in a couple of years. so it's not exactly going to cost the same ever. also you would need to know where to get the car services in your city.... its not a regular car so not everyone would be able to fix it.and if you get the Reva, keep it to local driving. or you would be stuck. and no one would be able to help you out. coz u cannot really carry electricity in a petrol can.the best value for money car in the market i think is the Swift LDI. at around 5 lakh rupees, you get 18-25 KMPL of Diesel. unless of course you decide to go for a maruti 800 and fit a CNG kit in it. of course you can also consider going in for the CNG version of Santro. i think they have it on offer (either CNG or LPG).

No doubt it is most economical in cities. I wud say if you dont care for its ugly looks (which females wudn't obviously) then i wud say it is best buy. Besides i think i read about reva being subsidised in delhi by mrs shila dixit.

and if you get the Reva, keep it to local driving. or you would be stuck. and no one would be able to help you out. coz u cannot really carry electricity in a petrol can.

You can carrry batteries in worst scenario. I am guessing they are detachable like the batteries in two wheeler (Those yo bikes).

reva is great for girls...several reasons. they offer thousands of colors as they can custom build one for you. think of the 100s of shades of pink it can have. no gears!

Hi tripti, nice to see you on forum! :)Reva is a cool car for girls and many use them in commuting day-day .In Bangalore using Reva would be a god option, provided you have a electric supply to charge it with! Because 1 charge can give you 40 Kms of distance, and though the speeds are not over 40-60km/hr the new variant of Reva model (I think it has been launched) will give better speeds!:thumb:
