It probably cached smaller size on the phone. Should not be a big deal. It is not supposed to sync the originals offline from what I understand.

Yeah. IIRC, it stores a low quality copy locally. If Internet is available, on clicking it loads the high res version, else it just shows that.

Will it be easy to apply a scratchguard? I'm considering getting a scratchguard from shops life The Mobile Store and ask them only to apply it . BTW the pics are resized to around half of the resolution but are still clear in full screen so this seems to be a pretty cool feature from Google. :D

Alright I got a matte finish screenguard applied. The device is looking good but the display is affected. The brightness is not an issue but the screen sometimes looks oily/rainbow-colorish. Is that normal?

yeap. most screenguards would mess up the quality of the display. a compromise you make to save it from scratches and breakage.

How do I take a complete backup of my device?

Recently I encountered a bootloop on my stock ICS and to get the phone back to working condition I had to wipe all data (more info here) and so I have decided to take a backup of my device once every week.

How do I take a complete backup of my nexus with rooting or unlocking the bootloader?

I want to backup the following stuff on my laptop:

Messages
Contacts (not needed TBH as they get synced with Google)
My Files (Music, Images, Videos) - VERY IMPORTANT as there is no memory card slot and in case of bootloops these files get deleted too
Applications (excluding system apps).

How can I back these stuff up without rooting?

BTW I'm on JB now and loving it. :D

there are tons of free sms backup apps available on the google play store. example: SMS Backup+ (Holo-ified)

contacts are backed up on google servers if you have enabled it. you can also export all the contacts to a csv file from the contacts manager. this file can be saved on the phone or copied to your computer in case you need multiple backups.

photos and videos can be backed up using Dropbox mobile app.

music? i would assume that you would be copying music from your computer to mobile. so you should always have a copy of it anyways? i personally use google music as i do not really listen to music on the move.

google keeps a record of all the apps you have installed on your phone you can access it from the google play store app or the website. settings are hard to backup. there is an option in settings where you can tell google to back this data to their servers.
