Hi All,

i m trying to setup vonage voip device brought from U.S.
The device is Vonage V-Portal Digital Phone Adapter with 1 Port Router .

I am trying to use BSNL type -II modem (DNA-A211-1) and I am getting the error

Error Code 004 - Unplug power connector and plug it in again. Wait until you see the Phone 1 icon displayed.

The device has been tested and used in U.S .... so there may not be a problem with the device ..

Please let me know any possible solutions!!!Any help is appriciated!!!

Thanks,
Srilu

1.Confirm you have set "always On" mode
in BSNL modem and can access Internet.
( enable DHCP in modem )

As this modem is similar to beetel Utstar 300r2U
check
Ut 300r2u - India Broadband Wiki
or
UT-300R2U ADSL MODEM MENU

2.Then transfer the RJ45 ( Blue cable) from computer end to
Vonage unit. ( Modem VDV21-VD) should work.

If all Ok you will get a "Telephone" "Monitor" "Globe"
icons.
below
Date time
mar11 10.42am ( U.S.time now)
Once you get connected computer not needed ( use for surfing
when required)

DO not attempt unless sure. given for ref.
3.http://192.168.15.1/login.html for Vonage

User id default router Password router.

:) Hi,

Recently setup the vonage equipment at Ahmedabad. Some lessons from the
experience to share.

>>>>Huawei MODEM WA1003A ADSL MODEM

Go to Setup > Select DCHP Config  Select ‘Server On’ [Important: you need to have modem allocating dynamic addresses to the internal devices including the Vonage router. In my case the tele. co. initially made me to allocated fixed addresses. This did not make sense. Had a hard time figuring out. In short the modem should have DHCP allocation on]

Finding out Hostname and Domain Name
> Go to Setup > Management IP >You can see them there

*Important: Keep NAT on modem. Don’t know about the firewall.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>>>>Vonage Linksys router

> Setup > Select “Obtain IP dynamically” > Put Hostname and Domain name (I have not checked whether this is optional or mandatory. In my case I did put both hostname and domain, I discovered from the modem configuration, as shown above) > Save settings

In case of Vonage Linksys brochure, it tells you select “PPoE” and put the username and password. But I learnt hard way that “Obtain IP dynamically” make things work.

“Internet” status line on router and “LAN” light on modem should be blinking among other things. This is tricky because it blinks just a bit. This indicates that router and modem are communicating. The steady internet light means that they are not communicating.

Thus it seems that logically that modem authenticates PPoE username and password with the PSTN server, while router should be just be talking to the modem. It need not re-authenticate.

** NOTE: THERE IS NO NEED OF PROCURING STATIC IP FROM PSTN. Normal connection works fine

Hi dude,

i guess you are right person to clarify my problem BSNL internet and Vonage.

I am using BSNL broardband they gave static IP nut i changed it as dynamic even thuogh i can able to access internet but the thinbg is iu am unable to access vonage because internet is not connecting to vonage device. I called to BSNL guys but they are trying escape and they are not responding positively.

I have an other internet connection service provider is TATA. By using TATA connection i can able to access vonage and system.

Please suggest me how to connect BSNL broadband internet connection to vonage. Please feel free to contact me for more details i am happy to provide you.

do you use a dialer to connect to bsnl broadband or does the internet work as soon as you switch on your modem?

Hi Superprash2003,

I have similar problem. My Parents have Internet where they have to dial in to connect to BSNL internet.

Thanks,

do you use a dialer to connect to bsnl broadband or does the internet work as soon as you switch on your modem?

see my Post No 52. Mention the modem model and make your parents are using.if they are not computer "savvy' better to have " Always On ' connection , so that computer need not be switched on for VOIP service.Mine ( Vonage VOIP ) is on 24 hours . computer used as and when required.Presume , you had set it in U.S Procedure:Ensure Modem and computer connected to Internet >( "Always On " mode preferred ) Then use the blue cable supplied by vonage Modem Lan port to vonage.Connect the phone. and andanother Rj45 fromVonage unit to computer LAn port. or to a wifi router if used. see the error messages in Lcd display.report.

HiI have Vonage VDV21-VD adapter and BSNL Huawei SmartAX MT800 modem. I tried to connect my Vonage adapter to the BSNL modem and computer to the Vonage adapter. This setup is exactly as per instruction given by Vonage. However, I am unable to access the internet using this setup. The internet works just fine if I remove the vonage adapter. There are lot of replies regarding setting the modem to always-on mode(post 52) and some replies mention changing IP address from static to dynamic. But I'm not sure how to change these settings. Could someone please explain how to change the settings to make my Vonage phone work?In my current network setup I have a Local Area Connection and to start internet I have to connect Broadband connection PPPOE. It is not set to connect automatically. Thanks in advance.

All the three icons should appear Telephone/Monitor/"globe "
It is not set to connect automatically.

Better to have " Always On ' connection ,
Enable DHCP in modem MT 880.
so that computer need not be switched on for VOIP service.

Mine ( Vonage VOIP ) is on 24 hours .
computer used as and when required.
Presume , you had set it in U.S

Procedure:
Ensure Modem and computer connected to Internet >
( "Always On " mode preferred )
Then use the blue cable supplied by vonage
Modem Lan port to vonage.
Connect the phone. and andanother Rj45 from
Vonage unit to computer
LAn port. or to a wifi router if used.
see the error messages in Lcd display.
report.

Thanks essbebe
I tried the setup as you mentioned. I am still not able to access internet and Vonage gives Internet Connect Error[Code002], for DSL check PPPoE setup.
I opened v-configure.com in my browser to check the settings but I do not reach the setup page.
Here's what I see on the page:
You have reached this page in error...

You have been redirected to this page because there was a problem loading your phone adapter's Web User Interface (UI) page. This may be caused by a conflict in your network setup. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Your PC is connected directly to the yellow LAN port of your Vonage phone adapter. If your Vonage phone adapter has more than one yellow LAN port, you may connect your PC to any one of the ports.
If you have a wireless network connection on your PC, please disable it. The connection should remain disabled while you are accessing the Web UI of your Vonage phone adapter. Enable the connection once again when you are finished accessing the Web UI.
After completing steps 1 and 2, press F5 on your keyboard or hold the shift key while clicking on the reload button in your browser.

Can you please tell me the procedure to Enable DHCP in modem MT 880.
Also, how to turn the "Always On" mode?
Thanks!
