... snip ...
i am using Open DNS in my LAN configuration settings of Windows

... snip ...
i have disabled DHCP and assigned manual ip to my comp
I have disabled DNS relay so that router dosnt use mtnl's dns
So far all sites opening perfectly
also noticed better browsing speeds

I have had a similar setup from day one (April/2005) of my TriBand service with one exception - run my own DNS server. Yet, I have been experiencing the same problem since mid May/2007.

IMO, the problem is not with DNS or Dynamic/Static IPs. When this happens you will notice that DNS resolves but connection to the site times out. If you do a traceroute to the site you will notice that it exceeds max. hop of 30, implying that packets are not reaching the destination.

IMO, this intermittent problem is not with DNS or your LAN settings, it lies somewhere between MTNL and VSNL (MTNL's upstream ISP).

IMO, this problem is way beyond the help line folks at 1504. Send your complaints to someone higher up in the chain.

Pls. see my earlier posts in this thread.

Exactly same problem occuring in Delhi Now.I have tried everything from changing DNS. Used Airtel's.Spectra's,4.2.2.1 and open DNS.What works for me is I use Connect /Disconnect from Routers page. Some sites start opeing up, while others stop. But i am not able to understand that how does connecting/reconnecting again helps ? Ip does change but VSNL is still there

Hi guys, I joined this forum specifically to post about this topic. I, like many of you, have been facing the same problem for the past one month or so. At first it was not so bad, with only one or two sites taking time to open.Over the past five to six days the problem has got A LOT worse. Now approx. 50% of the sites I try to open do not open. If I use a proxy they open immediately. At first I thought MTNL was blocking sites. Then I realised that the sites would open fine if I turned the router off and then on.This problem really is very frustrating as most of us are having problems accessing our e-mail and the major search engines, which is severely hampering our internet use.I have just e-mailed the GM (Broadband) of MTNL and asked him very politely to have some senior level tech person look into this problem. I also mentioned that lots of other users are facing this problem.I think we should all e-mail the GM (Broadband) and say the same thing. If enough people complain they will hopefully take some action and rectify the problem. As things stand the Triband service is a major irritation.Cheers!

OK, here is an interesting update. I was using a UT300R2U (squarish shape, with T-KD 318 EUI written on the front) router with my desktop PC and was facing all the problems mentioned above. I just borrowed a friend's UT300R2U router (slim shape tapering in the front) and am running it in Bridged mode through a D-Link Wi Fi Router and there are absolutely NO PROBLEMS at all opening any page on my laptop. This makes me wonder whether there is a problem with my specific router type or whether the settings in my router are incorrect.Which router are you guys using? Are you running through only the MTNL router or do you use another router and run the two routers bridged?

Thats what i've got ,right now it seems to be working fine.

for the past two days i'm facing the same problem but the torrents are working fine....there's a plus point though....they're not counting my sessions.so i wanted to enquire if mtnl guys add to usage after 2-3 days?earlier my account was credited with usage as soon as i used to logout.can i take the risk of using my account as unlimited one:P?
