Suggest a 2T Non-Inverter AC for top floor room

Hello,

I need to buy new AC for 190 sqft room top floor (sun directly hits the roof). So I know I need at least 2 Ton, but confusion is many people says that few brands 1.5 Ton AC's cooling is equivalent to 2 Ton in the other. So which brand I need and what tonnage?

A bit history on why I want new AC.
My first AC was 1.5 ton Voltas non inverter, It ran good the first year but cooling reduced from next year.
Many technicians have visited only to tell me that my AC is running perfectly. God knows what happened. But it won't chill the room as it used to do before and the compressor continues to run and room temp goes down but very slow. After so many diagnostics I came to a conclusion that because the unit was not vacuumed at install time, it's cooling efficiency was reduced but all technicians deny this fact. But I don't want to waste anymore time and money on this, I would rather buy new. My current AC already 5 years old now but this problem started happening since 2020, I bought it in 2019. In a nutshell I want to avoid this voltas brand all together.

Back to where we were, this post is about which brand's AC is must buy and what tonnage do I need 1.5 or 2 and it's cooling capacity, I want non inverter only.

Regards!

Before ac installation, I made sure no cool air escapes, doors gaps are sealed so as window, but Indian homes are close to impossible to fully air seal. The main issue is the heat that comes from within walls.

@anmolbhard004 it's just this measurement that technicians do, it's the first thing they check when diagnosing any ac. You place a thermometer infront of the indoor where the cool air comes from and measure it's temperature. It should be between 5 to 10 degrees depending on the time of day and ambiant temperature. The lower it is the better.

All I know that a car parked in sun takes a lot more time to cool than a car standing in shade, 10-15mins more that too need car window to be down initially for hot air to exit. Same can be said about top floor houses as concrete that take much longer to cool down once hot than metal body car imo.
Don't believe what your fried boast about unless you have pic proof of grill temp?
Get a smart plug and start your ac 15mins before entering the room.
Also get white tile or atleast white paint at roof top if you can't get solar panels for whatever reason.

I do have solar panels but not a big setup to cover the entire roof. I don't think he has any reason to boast about this. My old Voltas ac used to bring 6 degrees grill temperature at night and 8-10 in day time.

In current scenario I can only suggest for is insulate your walls and roof. Rest everything is already discussed. And since I am on top floor, I am quite eager to know solution to this as might go for AC before next summer

@Jonas @vikram_ch I think it definitely would've made the difference. Anyway what's done is done, nothing can be done other than insulating my room. Close all air gaps I might even consider putting polystyrene sheets over the roof from inside.

I still think this low cooling is due to not performing proper vacuum. R32 gas has this issue widely known. I remember technician stopped vacuum pump when the meter gauge was below -15hg, it should be on -30Hg for proper vacuum.
When double stage vacuum pump is used, only 15 min is required to reach -30hg while for single stage pump (the one used for my ac) requires min 30-45 minutes. He was confused about this fact, gosh if only I knew at that time.

@alpha1980 how does one know if the vaccum pump used is a single stage or a double stage pump?
The video I shared above does mention for 15/30 mins for dual/single pump.

Yes, lack of 0.5 additional tonnage is making the difference in performance given tne additional heat from the roof.

@alpha1980 even i am considering polystyrene sheets on top and will check feasibility on walls(at lest 2 of them which face sunlight in second half). Will go for 1.8ton-2ton considering your case. although i have at lest 9 months to decide
