Today (13 Apr 09), we have a SUN DTH HD advertisement in the newspaper (Ahmedabad Mirror). Official website is: Sun Direct HD

1,250 for standard installation charges
100 per month, per channel for HD contents viewing
499 or 999 for basic package charges (5 months or 12 months respectively)
- are they bringing HD or a stolen kohinoor from london?

of course... need HDTV at the 1st place and then only its worth buying HD STB.

10 years back the cost of a low quality VCR was Rs.10,000.
Now Rs.10,000 for a HD STB seems costlier.
I have waited for long for the availability HD channels. Now it looks like it is not worth the way Sun offers without any english channels currently and too costly for Tamil and Telugu which I do not watch. When I took Sun DTH in addition to Tata Sky there were few more Mallu channels in Sun and picture quality was marginally better. But Tata scored over Sun by introducing Tata Sky+ which has very vivid colors while connecting through component input and PVR which is really useful. So I stopped switching on Sun direct and did not renew it for 2 months and renewed in March (eventhough my wife and kids were not interested in Sun) to find most of the additional Mallu channels are gone. It was really disappointing.:madness: Now HD with hardly any english channels for 12K is too much. I am sure Tata will introduce HD STB with PVR. So I do not see any reason to take HD from Sun
And my experiment with Sun turned out to be a total waste :madness:

However they are not offering any good channels. Maybe if it was ESPN, Star Sports or IPL in HD I would pay 1000RS per month...so i guess ppl who have HDTV's should be able to afford SunHD though you can get some HDTVs for a cheap price. At the moment though, ppl should get Tata Sky plus instead of SUN HD. Because at the moment they only have 2 HD channels and we have no idea if the content will be real HD. I'm sure they will just play DVD's and upscale them to 720p to call it HD. Like how they say there quality is DVD quality when it is clearly not, when they say they are showing HD they will probably be showing proper DVD quality now.
