Tata Sky DTH now replacing MPEG2 STBs with MPEG4 STBs for free!

You upgraded to HD? Or did you choose 12 months warranty on your MPEG4 box? In both the cases it is not free of cost migration.
Free of cost migration has just 1 month warranty on the box.

I did not chose anything, Got a call and they asked me to upgrade to MPEG-4 and asked 900/-. I decided not to take it and shifted to HD.

Did you pay 990 for HD upgrade or more than that?
It should have been complete free migration. I am not sure why they asked for 900.

Is the picture quality better on MPEG-4 Boxes which are replaced free of cost?

If you are upgrading to hd you might be able to spot the quality difference on lcd/led tv. You will not be able to make out the difference on crt tv.

I am talking about the free replacement box which is given, how's the picture quality of that on LCD TV? Is it better than the MPEG-2 Sd box ?

I think it would be the same. Even if it is better you wont be able to make out the difference.

990 is for the upgrade to the HD box with 1 year warranty and the 1 month HD access. Upgrade to the new MPEG 4 SD box is free.

Ok, there was no sms sent from Tata Sky, so i sent Y to 56633 and got reply - "Thank you for your interest in upgrading to MPEG-4 set top box. Our representative will get in touch with you shortly" Let's see what happens.
