Guys does this happen to anyone else?I scheduled a recording of Super Singer last night and it failed to record and the reason given was technical fault. Anyone knows what this means and how to overcome it?

I have had a failed recording in the past but there was no error message - the program seemed to have recorded fine but it didn't play back. The box is quite flaky, I've had programs get stuck while rewinding and on one such occasion the box froze, had to completely power down (via mains) to get it back, if I'd been recording one or more programs during this time they'd obviously have been fcuked. If this is a one-off I don't think you should worry about it, otherwise it's a job for tech support.

so in short there is no guaranty that ur programs wud be recorded?why cant they make fail safe boxes?

I don't know if the software is updated automatically via the service, if that's the case then maybe a few of the flaws can be ironed out. But come on, this is just another h/w+s/w platform, that too with moving parts (HDD) - your experience with PCs should tell you that you're better off expecting some imperfection. I'm quite happy with the device overall and it works fine 95% of the time which is a huge leap from where TV viewing was a month back with the basic STB.

minor imperfection can be tolerated but imperfection in basic/principle feature can not be. whats the use of paying 9000Rs when there is no 100% guarantee that program wud be recorded. We are not a trial users that they test features with us and we are supposed to report bugs in basic features itself.

I agree, the STB could be a little more stable but 100% is over-reaching, very few things have a 100% guarantee - last I heard it was death and taxes. Even my 80K PC doesn't come with a 100% guarantee for flawless operation. It's the state of the technology that's unreliable, I don't think TS is using us as guinea pigs, Sky has had these gizmos in operation for years and I'm sure their subscribers face similar problems. 9K sounds like chickenshit when I think of people buying VCRs for 15, 30, and even 40K in the early days. We haven't got to 100% yet but the progress is pretty good. Nothing wrong with complaining, progress would be a bit slower if nobody complained, but I'm quite happy with the way things are. :cool2:

Recording is such a minor functionality. Why cant it have 100% guarantee?Unless there is rain or hardware problem, such a SMALL software can not have slight inaccuracy.Ummm, let me compare with linux, i have scheduled so many things on linux. It has never failed a single cron job.(unless my comp is off or internet is down)

i agree that recording is minor, but everything cant be perfect as nosh said, besides not everyone is facing the issue.. one can cal their tech guys to fix it.. one sholdnt overlook the bigger picture..it adds a whole new perspective to watching regular tv.

I have this problem thrice; all related to absence of power; twice due to power failure when the unit was in standby mode and once I switched off the mains unintentionally. But the message was - technical fault, unknown reason.
