I dont underdstand technology too much but from what i have read, there is no need to divide the bandwidth. It just get recorded in the inbuilt hard disk. It is like dvd being played on Video 1 on your TV and you watching cable. So picture quality remains the same while recording.

The STB has two tuners, the LNB has two and two cables run from dish to STB. So the two channels tuned or viewed or virtually independent. But as two channels can be recorded and one recorded channel can be viewed simultaneously, the stb must have a high speed disc and sufficient buffer. To evaluate recording quality, one must watch a channel and record it at the same time, and then watch the recorded version.

Power consumption of the STB is rather high - 55 watts when working and 28 watts in standby mode. Plans for future recordings are retained even if STB is switched off. But the STB must be on or in standby mode if recording is to happen; else the plan shows 'failed recording'.If the standby power is reduced to single digit, perhaps the STB can be left on all the time.
