The Ridiculous Airtel Broadband Plans

well i started this thread to get an idea.

https://broadband.forum/airtel-broadband/80968-anyone-here-8-16mbps-faster/

airtel seems to be sticking with .8mbps on their 8/16mbps dsl plans. i really want to know about their fibrenet plans too! (spelling it fibrenet is a pain in the ass really).

Ah though so. Your pretty much in love with most google products and since opera was a web/mobile browser so switched name to chrome.

actually i still use opera 24x7. i need both opera and chrome running together as part of my work flow (if what i do on a daily basis can be considered work!)

i no longer recommend opera because they keep on ****ing around things. this is one simple thing that totally broke the opera browser for me.

they cannot do that. would invite a lot of heat from their customers. pro-rata works fine.

in my case, they pushed me on the new plan around 10 days before my billing date. but they never informed me. what was the result? i got a higher bill for the previous month.

someone here on the forum deconstructed the bill and explained to me what actually happened!

When I switched to Turbo 150, I had requested for the migration around 5 days before the end of the billing cycle. I was told that the plan will be migrated at the beginning of the next cycle but it never happened. Around 15 days into the billing cycle, I got a call from Airtel to confirm that my plan had been changed but I was still getting only 2mbps. I was told that the migration happened at the start of the billing cycle. Eventually, the speed bumped to 4mbps only after 15 days into the month. But I was charged the tariff for Turbo 150 for the whole month.

I use Firefox on PC,chrome requires faster connection which I don't have but on phone I no longer use opera or opera mini but use UCWEB 8.x series which is pretty good. Not sure how it is in touch screen phones though.

yeah. that's something that they do. i hope not intentionally. getting your airtel connection disconnected is a nightmare. the last time i got a connection disconnected, i paid charges for 45 days of non-usage just because they did not do the necessary changes in their backend.

I didn't bother with asking for pro-rata billing because the previous plan was like Rs. 2499 and the Turbo plan is Rs. 2099. I guess I gained money-wise even though I was getting only 2mbps for 15 days.

I called 121 and was charged Rs 0.50 for the call. :(Customer support is saying that in my area only up to 4 mbps plans are available. Plans with 8 mbps or 16 mbps download speed and Fibrenet plans are not available. In fact, Fibrenet plans are not actually available anywhere in Delhi, they exist only in the website of Airtel.

do not call airtel. make them call you. file a request using twitter or the email form on their website.

Alright, I've spoken to CC and also received 3 emails. There seems to be no Rapid 175 in Chennai. I don't know how intractive managed to get Rapid 175 in Chennai. The differences between Turbo 150 and Rapid 150 are:4 mbps as against 8mbpsRs. 300 voice billing cap as against Rs. 500 FCV.The datacap is the same 150GB and the post-FUP speed is still 256kbps.I am not sure if it's worth paying Rs. 300 extra unless you're enticed by double the speed and the FCV of Rs. 500.
