The Ridiculous Airtel Broadband Plans

Airtel can easily provide 2mbps Unlimited at 700 or so. My friend's father is a Project Manager of Airtel Africa and told that Airtel has tons and tons of bandwith unused and wasted. Because of the cheap mentality of package setters they have plans with 256kbps as post FUP because they think doing net is only doing facebook/tweeting on twitter and chatting on messengers for most Indians. As per reports 80% of Broadband users spend most of the time they allot to internet on facebook. So 256kbps is enough for them.

In 2007-08, I took Airtel 256 kbps unlimited for 750 with 50 calls free, 4+ years later, all I can get for 450 rupees more is a speed boost for 15 GB & even the free calls are gone. Its obvious that even if we get 100 mbps, it will be with pathetic FUP limits and at ridiculous costs. Hoping that something happens that changes things, but not feeling very optimistic looking at the current situation@bajechele - It is a fact that probably many of the users will be happy with they give. Its high-end users and people who expect quality for money (high speed, even at moderate limits like 75-100 GB) who are affected.

as i said in my blog post (if possible give this post or the thread a +1!), airtel's strategy is to attract customers with 4/8/16mbps plans.

n00b customers would go for the cheapest plans with little data on them. finish up their quota and be tempted to buy smartbytes packages to continue on the same speeds.

few of them would see what just hit them. faster speeds mean you hit the FUP faster. smartbytes has become the moneymaker for airtel now.

what speed you get on airtel 4G LTE, any idea about the tariffs, is it limited or unlimited, can you tell cause my cousin in bangalore wants to take a new 4G LTE airtel connection and when will it be available in Mumbai?

what speed do you get before the FUP finishes, it's given speed post FUP 128Kbps and before that what is the speed, break free ultra looks quiet decent as my cousin brother is a software professional at infosys in bangalore and earns very good salary, he uses net mostly for blogging and watching some videos here and there nothing else, 18GB is enough for him.

there are no guarantees of speeds on a wireless connection. it can be spectacular or you might not be able to connect to the network at all depending upon where you are.

he lives within the city limits at MG Road which is quiet a modern place with latest malls and shops, lot of foreigners and trendy people come there, 2Mbps or more speed is enough for him till 18GB.

you are missing the point. it does not matter where you friend lives. what matters is how the coverage is in his area. and wireless signal quality can different from one room to another in the same house. there are absolutely no guarantees.

abhijit88, you remind me so much of abhi22 (Who wanted to throw away his S2)... Any relation, by any chance?
