The Ridiculous Airtel Broadband Plans

Airtel has a plan that you can request a migration to, called Rapid 175, its a 8mbps connection with 175 GB FUP for Rs. 2599. I have signed up for this. I'll post the speed test once it's done.--EDIT--And it becomes 512kbps post FUP

It is not shown on their tariff list for Chennai, that's what I meant when I specified that this is an available plan for Chennai.

i guess they have not updated the tariff plans of your city then. airtel customer care people are usually the last one to know about new plans :|

You're right about that :) I first came to know about this when I had to deal with a complaint about me using up my FUP limit when I didn't, atleast I had proof. My unbilled page showed I used 53.88 gb in 4 hours. And that's impossible. The team lead I was dealing with knew about this plan and suggested I call Customer Care and set this plan up. Which I promptly did. FUnny part was the Customer Care agent I got connected didn't know about this, so I hung up called 121 again and this time the guy that answered knew about this!

best is to get the latest tariffs in a spreadsheet format from airtel_presence. but then even they have incorrect data most of the times. the ods file they sent me has several typos.

I got a spreadsheet for Chennai plans and it only had Rapid 150 (Rs. 2399/- revised to Rs. 2550/-) with a post-FUP speed of 256kbps and a free call value of 500.

Just call 121 and ask for Rapid 175, these guys are nuts sometimes, like I mentioned the first rep I spoke had no idea about this plan. The second one knew about this. I don't think the info you have is accurate. I got this done only a few hours ago.

or maybe try getting the plan change through airtel_presence? though they can be horribly useless at times too.

BTW, I lost around 5 GB on a day during the last billing cycle. Airtel showed that I've consumed 5GB more on that day than what I actually did. I contacted customer care in vain. They were like, it could be sorted only after the next bill is generated. I don't know what this has to do with the bill. So, I gave up. Smartbytes costs Rs. 299/- for 5 GB. :-/
