Torrenting Problem on Spectra

what if torrent trackers are on http? :D

in any case, it should help in case spectra starts targeting seedbox domains used for https downloads?

stop complaining about the crappy isp and focus on getting the most out of what you are stuck with. there are enough workarounds for anything spectra throws at you. since you are stuck with it, just focus on getting the most bang for your buck... 😬

This should be on top of every forum or in a welcome message to new users. No ISP is perfect. Getting the best out of any ISP is what we all should strive for. A common aim of the forum will help to reduce a lot of negativity when someone has a bad day. 😌

ranting helps man. i used to rant all the time. i moved that bit to social media few years ago. 😁 now i am bored and tired. things are not going to magically fix. big state is here and all we can do is look for ways around to get the job done!

i learnt a lot of things dealing with the shit these companies have been throwing around. would have never considered or bothered to get a VPN or switch to encrypted dns. now it is basically part of online life. i suggest more and more people to make their online communication secure and encrypted so that isps cannot play around with it.

ok so i am facing another issue here - i randomly get pathetic speeds when i download from the seedbox to my PC. i did a traceroute & to my surprise, i found that all my traffic gets routed via telstra! this is happening with every site & not just the seedbox.

here is a tracert to example.org:

Tracing route to example.org [93.184.216.34]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.205.171.1
3 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 203.122.50.173.reverse.spectranet.in [203.122.50.173]
4 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 203.122.61.77.reverse.spectranet.in [203.122.61.77]
5 3 ms 2 ms 1 ms unknown.telstraglobal.net [202.41.232.85]
6 38 ms 38 ms 38 ms i-91.chep-core02.telstraglobal.net [202.47.214.229]

12 277 ms 277 ms 277 ms 93.184.216.34

Trace complete.

i am sure i can't even complain about this & it could very well be the reason for slow downloads to my pc which happen when telstra might be congested.

well guess what, spectranet is definitely the worst ISP in this country right now!

i used a seedbox for trial purposes and then tried to download that file to my PC via a FTP client (Filezilla). To my shock, i was downloading the file at only 15-20 kbps speeds. i changed ISP to hathway to test & guess what - full speed of the connection.

these MFers are even throttling FTP speeds! its not just limited to torrents. how can they do this and get away with it?

guys, never take a connection from spectra shit.
If your seedbox has a rerouting tool try that. i used to kinda get shiity speeds at time and i still get crappy speeds on filezilla(downloading single file and uploading in general)
i use my linux machine now to FTP over to my seedbox using lftp to both upload and download and i top out 1 Gbps (do note that my linux machine is still on very old pentium processor)
torrents on that linux machine is still shit on public and on private its good enough when you get proper peers since spectra has one of the worst peerings and routings i've seen

yes ranting does work but ranting on a private support tickets gets you nowhere go to their social media twitter and facebook and show the proof of how bad it is you'll definitely get a basic response as in please contact us we'll try and fix it but show them your previous support tickets in public and tell them how nothing ever gets fixed
now if you're lucky a knowledgeable person from their internal team will call you and at least try and fix it. like i said before i used to get shitty speeds from my seedbox or basically on every server except only on their own servers after this rant speeds to few of the severs i mostly use have been great

Also while checking speeds between your system and servers try and use Iperf i usually get more accurate results since i've never seen that throttled and then try other tools to actually check if anything else does get throttled or is it just crappy routing and peering

hmm i've never seen my connections routed though telstraglobal but my connections randomly do get routed through paris and all over europe though i just wanted to stay in asia :(
try to change your WAN IP in your router from sometime like 10.X.X.101 to 10.X.X.222 this will change the public IP and the subnet you're on you might get you a better routing
Do note that sometimes the IP you chose will already be assigned to somebody and you wont be able to connect to the internet just change the end value and it should work

Right? I always see Airtel , TATA or Flag IPs in traceroutes in first few hops. It's so weird that the traffic straight up goes to Telstra at 5th hop with 2ms ping.

spectra uses vodafone, TATA and VSNL. VSNL is usually the good one and vodafone is the worst

my traffic from BLR to BLR goes through chennai i did ask them why do this mostly the guys say cost saving measure

and also getting them to fix routing is almost next to impossible to get them to fix their 380ms pings to singapore me and @varkey went through a lot. i personally have spent atleast 48 hours of time with them but finally the answer would be "Sir we cant optimise routes for dynamic IP why dont you get a Static IP" and then i try to get static IP and their team is like sir we only provide static IP to business connections, now i tell this to their engineer he is like oh thats weird ! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
