Hi "harrydeo"

Could you give some technical information regarding the smart card being provided by Tata Sky for subscription purposes?

I wanted to look for alternative smart card readers that can read Tata Sky's subscription card, but dont have a start point for the same.

We can then take the discussion further.

Thanks,
dowell

Tata SKY uses NDS Videoguard as their Encryption system

Hi "harrydeo" and others,

Can you tell us more about pheonix configuration.

Would you like to know more about the model number of my Phoenix card reader or any other parameter about it (am using Phoenix USB Unlimited card reader)? I did not quite understand what details you wanted. Please give me more of an idea of the details you require.

By the way Harrydeo, I have now been able to view the signal on my PC. But, I too have faced the same problem as mentioned in one of the very early posts in this thread. My card has stopped functioning after being inserted into the smart card reader.

The thing is, since my last post I was trying work-arounds to get the signal on my PC. Finally, I did manage to get them. After receiving them for about 20mins or so, the picture got freezed. I could not figure out what went wrong so I put the smart card back into my STB to check if it works normally over there. It didnt. I continously kept getting banner no 253 whose text is: "Error 999: Please contact the help line for further help". My account status showed the message "Last LFR packet dropped".

When I put the smart card back into the smart card reader to view signals on my PC I just didnt get any audio or video (the problem still persists). When I see the "Momitor" tab in the "NDSCam" menu of DVB dream it shows normal functioning of the card. In the sense that I still receive ECM packets every 10sec, and DCW keys alternate between odd and even. The only difference is, no picture/audio.

Tata Sky's engineer has visited my place and he too couldnt figure out what the problem was. So, he would be replacing my smart card.

I wonder what went wrong for which I have few observations/questions to ask you:
1. The smart card reader was operating in read-only mode. I have never clicked on the "Write" tab of the reader's GUI with which anything could have been written on to the card. Then could it still be possible that the card reader wrote something on the card that damaged it?

2. In the settings of NDSCam, should I select/unselect the check boxes for:
KS Driver, Use TT-trick, Scan CAT, Scan PMT, EMM-S, EMM-U?

3.In the "Options->Preferences->Plug-in interface" of DVB dream should I check/uncheck the check box of 184 byte packets?

Awaiting your early reply.

Regards,
dowell

Hey sorry to say but please edit the log. its better if you can send a PM instead of pasting on the forum. Its easy for the Tata sky guys to sue you for this reason. Read the tata sky's terms and conditions..

Oh yeah.. if possible dont use tata sky card on phoenix. I've blown up 2 cards on it and dunno why it blows up. May be the access method written by joker is wrong and it screws up sometime.

Currently i'm using Big+Tv n Newcs and its working smooth like hell.. Rather you should consider using that.. Though you will end up with lotsa codec problems... :P

Finally happened to me as well. I think there is somthing wrong with the pheonix mode itself. For BigTV I think more than 50% of channel will show as data only channels and audio pids are not detected for those. Probably we have to look into the lyngsat data.
