that is probably the only problem. airtel line cut means telephone, broadband and tv all dead. thankfully, its airtel and problems are very rare. and they are fixed pretty fast. airtel actually treats IPTV customers on priority basis. because they realize that TV is i guess more essential for most people compared to internet connectivity.

Well Said! you are absolutely right. This luxurious product once you use then there is no easy U turn. Not because of price you’ve paid for it, because of you daily TV watching needs the way you want it to.

If this same product you buy made in Germany guess how much you will pay for it to buy, not less than 20,000 to 28,000. Now put two same capabilities product in shop, which one you would buy. Made in China or made in Germany. Product is not overpriced though price can be reduced from Tata sky. If you look in to the specs of Tata Sky DTH+Box hard build less than that, then how we can say it is overprice but yes, it is expensive. Not everyone can afford it, but that is not enough to say this product is not good.

You will see when USB and Ethernet ports activated it will be able to transfer recorded contents to your computer. You can schedule your recoding from computer through web via Ethernet port. That also can be use for IPVR to record directly to your computer. USB can be used for external hard drive to expand storage capacity. This box is already fit for these functions just they have to update the software to activate the ports for more advanced features.

To your infromation we can buy HD PVR for Rs.15,000 and it is just madness to pay Rs.10,000 just for a PVR which has too many problems.

Cant we use RTI to know how much it costs to them and why have they priced it so high? Recently i read in the paper that a man sued Dell for overpricing their range of laptops in India, and the court found dell guilty, was asked to pay fines and compensations.

All the STBs , those USB modems that are sold at 3.5k ! Damn lets SUE'em!

And what exactly do you think they are waiting for ? Dude, you seem to be living in a dream world. The reason why all those things u've just said wont happen is copyright issues. As of now, since you cannot transfer recorded content from Tata Sky DTH+ 's hard drive to your hard drive, it does not violate copyright laws. We all know its all technically possible. Also, in that way, we are paying for that usb port which will never be used(or maybe 5 yes from now?) that ethernet port which is rendered useless, and we pay premium for this ? :S

the lawsuit was probably won because of the faulty parts in the laptop. but NO court in India can fine a company for 'over pricing' products unless of course they have a monopoly of some kind. a company can probably be sued if they are charging different price from different customers. but i am pretty sure that they are free to price products as per their choice legally.

I think the issue was Dell was charging more than the max mrp printed on the box. This is not allowed.

heh ok. that still means that Dell can put any price on the box and use that as the MRP. in other words, you cannot really take Tata Sky or any other dth player to court claiming they are overcharging for the set top boxes. it is pretty clear and obvious that they are doing exactly that.
