thanks.. madhusudan.. Which is better BSNL ro Airtel.. in 512 kbps category.

I would prefer bsnl over airtel;
Airtel 512 kbps should be around Rs.1500
But Bsnl is Rs.1350 /-

hello,I am using BSNL BB 256 plan and I notice that the max download speed is around 30kBps. One of my friend is using Airtel with the same plan and he is getting around 50 kBps. Is there something I need to check. BSNL service sucks big time. The concerned person (in Indiranagar, Bangalore) hardly does present in his seat. Not sure whom to complaint on this. Any help appreciate!Thanks,Prashanth

@member/prahu_a/Welcome to broadbandforum.co256kbps /8= 32KB/sec max. ( *conditions apply)Try TCP/IP optimizer from speedguide.net.Check speed at speedtest.net server say Brisbane.There is nothing to complain about.

30 - 32 KBps speed on 256 Kbps connection is pretty normal.
Although 50 KBps is something i've never seen on a 256 Kbps conncection, i meant a steady 50 KBps, sometimes the connectvity initially shoots to 50 KBps or more then gradually would come back to around 30 KBps on most of the 256 Kbps connection.

The main reason for this being 8 Kb = 1 KB (Note the change in case of the letter 'B')
so therefore 256 Kbps = 32 KB (which is the optimum speed)

In general computer terms for storage we always relate data by Bytes(B). Eg: KB, MB,GB etc.
But in when it comes to data transfer rate in internet it's always Bits(b) per second. Eg: Kbps, Mbps, Gbps etc.

I don't think complaining against this would bring about any changes....

ooh u r wrong mate :(

Airtel 512 kbps rs 1500 (include tax)
BSNL 512 kbps rs 1350 (exculse tax )---(1350*12.6)+1350=1520 approx

BSNL 1520>1500 AIRTEL---------this means airtel is cheaper if u r in bangalore or another city in tamil nadu or kerala try airtel because the main head router was held in chennai so ... latency will be very low........trust me

this is what i call the awsome speeds :p
