@Karthik - iam going to buy HD only nothing else, dont want to downgrade my TV viewing experience :)

Good Choice... All the best.... just for HD Box... i hope soon we all will get Open DVR's

@ JayminSorry Jaymin, I posted trick here that I will change D2H lnbf with dish tv dish & I will improve D2H quality but I couldnt complete that. Actually Dish TV is for my father & D2H for me specially. My father hides their anger which is very dangerous & didnt dare for it. By the way I notice a thing that Dish tv dish is oval dish & D2H is circle type dish. I think both's length are same & may be capacity too, just type are different. Dont know by length they are different or same.

Its ok yaar! Even i dont dare to fiddle with my equipment for similar reasons. If i fiddle with my PC & its down for 1 or 2 days, its ok. But if the STB is down & the soaps are missed due to that, it will create a furore! :D

:D true I think Airtel is best in that time. Dont mind. I mention here in D2H section. But see na ADTV DVR has 550 hours, You can record program through mobile ( I think it not make difference that your stb is on / totally off. Its my guess. Dont know it work if stb is totally off) But there are two minus points that there is feature like D2H which allow to users modify recorded clip by copy paste & main is that all set of dth is not property of user if subscriber never subscribe in the future.

@npat,

i doubt this, its like saying you cant use an external monitor to your Dell CPU, the only main thing which they need is the LNB (Feedhorn), the dish is just a receiver of electro magnetic waves. check below. The Dish has nothing to do with the warranty or Harware compatibility issues. for crying out loud, its just a Dish and nothing is there in it other than a metal piece bent to a parabolic shape.

"The parabolic shape of a dish reflects the signal to the dish’s focal point. Mounted on brackets at the dish's focal point is a device called a feedhorn. " (courtesy : Wikipedia Satellite dish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

You will defintely use an external monitor with a Dell CPU, but the question is, will you use it if it is not required?
I never questioned the advantages of a larger dish. I never said that if you use a larger dish then you will lose on quality and stuff. What I said was that if a larger dish was *indeed* needed then Videocon would provide it themselves even if that means a higher cost. And by providing a larger dish they could well brag in the market that "we have the largest dish and hence, most superior picture quality". The fact that they haven't done this means that what they are providing is *sufficient* for the service provided.

Also, you say that there won't be any warranty issues. Well, if you buy a new car and change the tyre specifications as per your requirement and if that requirement is not as per company standards, then you will definitely lose warranty on your tires and rims / alloys. If you put a reverse camera after purchasing a new car and that involves modification in electrical wiring (higher relay capacity, joints, etc.) then you will definitely lose your warranty on the Electricals of your car.

Bottom line is, unless you enjoy very high contacts in Videocon Management, installing a dish other than the one provided by Videocon will void your warranty. That's why is I said in my original post "Of course, there is always DIY (Do It Yourself), but then points 1) and 2) come into picture for that". If you don't believe then check with their Installation Engineer or their Team Lead. I can give you a Bangalore Team Lead's number if you want.

@IM - yes, here in Chennai there is a electronic market where i have seen lots of dishes available for sale. i dont know whether i can talk to the D2H team straight away but i will give it a try by calling their customer care tomorrow from office [i can kill sometime by doing this]. if everything goes good and cost of the dish isnt that big then i'm going to go for 90 cm dish for the HD connection (if and only they bring me 60/63 cm dish)

@Jaymin - you are right, mounting 120 cm dish would look like a small roof on the building :), i would go for 90 cm dish itself.

---------------------------------------

Do anyone know the Signal checking meter name? i would also like to buy one of those, instead the D2H guys refuse to put 90 cm then i will buy one and do the alignment myself :)

There are rumors that the will be a special offer for Diwali so going to wait till that time to book by D2H, also there is no one at home to watch and i dont want to waste the first month platinum free offer also :) (so Greedy:))

I just replied to your post, lets see when it appears here!

I dont think so... may be as per T & C

I have my SUNDIRECT Box with me only.... i disconnected a year back...

I think in the future we will get Open Market DVR's... so that we can copy and store the Programmes which we want... But be carefulll dont paste the Videos in public... you will be caught.. .becuase DTH often Send a message in your screen like ASDFKHKS means that unique code is linked with your account...

I dont think this is possible because-

1) There will be warranty issues.
2) There will be hardware compatibility issues.
3) From common sense point of view, if a larger dish is required then I see no reason why videocon won't provide it in the first place. They can give an option to the customer to select a larger dish and charge accordingly if the customer wants a larger dish. Also, if you think the other way then Videocon can simply throw the large dish for all connections and jack the prices. They are doing neither of these, so I think that whatever size they are offering should be sufficient to serve the purpose.

Of course, there is always DIY, but then points 1) and 2) come into picture for that.

Actually without going into details, it seems logical too.....I mean the rays wont search for a dish with the label "D2h" or "D2h HD" on it, and then decide whether to hit onto that dish or not. Or that the satellite floating above will not try to pinpoint that which dish has those labels on them, and then target the rays on that dish only!

But, still i dont know whether companies allow this or not.
